First official day in my house

Post by Red Squirrel »

So I got the key today and me and my mom started to do some work in it.

My mom did the crappy job of cleaning the fridge and patio door as well as other stuff like curtains. I did most of the demolition such as removing all the screws from the walls, the baseboards, and then my mom and sister helped me remove the cuboards. Still more to remove. I may have a bit of electrical work to do as well as some plugs are weirdly placed.

There are also wires sticking out from all over, it's weird how they got it setup. Through the vents etc... The cable TV runs are horribly done, so think all cabling will be removed and I'll put new cable.

But yeah for day 1 there's lot of progress.

Congrats.

Your first piece of property will seem like a huge amount of work. However, when it's all said and done, there is no better feeling than sleeping in a house you have worked on and own.

Here's some pics I took yesterday and today of before / during.

The pictures don't really show the nastiness. There is grease all over the walls and stuff lol. That lady sure loved to cook very dirty unhealthy meals. Bet they tasted very good though.

But yeah, fun stuff, and looking forward for everything to be cleaned and new.

Painting is going to do wonders and probably kill the funny smells that tend to show up sometimes.

I'm also going to get the house sprayed as there is a spider problem, and I'll also get the ducts cleaned as they are quite nasty. These are all the things to expect from an old house though, so no big surprises yet.

That microwave needs to go lol. The rest of the house looks good though. The fireplace is a rather nice addition. Is it wood burning? It might need a creosote log in that case.

The fireplace is actually electric lol. It's kinda neat. Basically a flame simulation thing (not sure how it works, I'm even wondering if it's a LCD) and an electric heater.

Aha, I see. The logs beside it were misleading :P.
