Ongoing King of the Hill
This is an idea I started to implement on a shard I was helping to run a few years back, never got it fully finished but I always thought it would be fun.
Basically it's a continuous running king of the hill type of "event area" where there was an item, let's say a halberd for example. This item gives the "holder" special powers/abilities but also had certain negatives (including being attackable by everyone), and the item or person with the item can only stay in the designated king of the hill area. There would be a big board that displayed the top 10 "holders" by the time they held it. So something like:
Top 10 Holders of all time:
1.) George 23 hours 15 minutes 10 seconds
2.) Ringo 15 hours 0 minutes 3 seconds
...
Just thought it'd be a fun way to get players involved/interested in some pvp type of things. No risk and the reward is a spot on the board. For a more precise list of what's involved look below:
Area rules:
Players can attack the "holder" but not eachother.
Players respawn when they die with all items/no insurance loss.
The "halberd" or the "holder" can't leave the area.
Halberd rules:
Any player who double clicks it has it equipped and the becomes the holder.
Gives special "abilities" and "negatives" to the holder.
On holder death or if it leaves the area respawns after x amount of time.
Holder rules:
Additional Abilities:
Examples of abilities it might give the holder could be 6/6 casting, 120 all skills, amazing stats/regen, or just a strong weapon...
Negatives:
Examples of negatives it might give the holder could be they can be attacked by anybody/everybody, they can't heal, they can't hide and they can't ride a mount.
When they die the item either goes to the person who dealt the most damage or if that person is not in the area the "halberd" respawns at the center of the area.
Let me know what you think and feel free to post suggestions!

Sounds very similar to the unreal tournament mode known as "Mutant". Starts off as a free for all battle until a kill is made. The person who provided the killing blow would become the mutant, gaining more bonuses and benefits than anyone else. The game no longer becomes a free for all, it becomes a quest to "steal" the mutant bonuses from the player who has mutated (By killing them).
With the AOV event system in place, it's entirely possible to set up an event for it and create a ranking system for top players (Needs more work but I have made note of in the "future event" area).

Well one of the things I like about the way I envision it is that there is not need to have an "event" for it. It could be open to players at any and all times, just gives players something to do whenever they feel like it. Try and kill the guy with the ball, lol.
I figure it might even be fun for someone to try and write a script to kill all others/keep themselves alive with the ball, to get past the 24 hour period (unless you're super hardcore that is).

It would need to be an event. Unfortunately, sometimes there are only a few people online. If the even where ongoing, I would imagine a lot of the time there may be just 1 person sitting afk in the arena racking up time. However, if it was a special once a week event (say sunday afternoon or w/e every week) it would draw more people each time it occurs.Faqop wrote:Well one of the things I like about the way I envision it is that there is not need to have an "event" for it. This is totally doable with our auto event system so something to look into.

Events don't require an arena, we just make them to set specific rules and boundaries. I have not tried it but pretty sure it's even possible to make a whole new map, as long as it uses one of the existing client maps. So for example I could make a mirror of malas or tram and use strictly for events. Though I'd have to add all the doors, deco etc...

If it was all of fel, the person who was "it" could just hide out somewhere and rack up their time like crazy. It would also give an unfair advantage to them at spawns and things if they had a bunch of bonuses. By making it an actual event and limiting the area used, it forces PvP, as well as encourages people to participate if it is uncommon, rather than just an ordinary every day ocurance.Death wrote:Events don't require an arena, we just make them to set specific rules and boundaries. That's one of the obvious reasons why arenas are used, but my main point is that an ongoing event like that can take place pretty much anywhere. The large structure in magincia was once planned for a massive 4 team ctf.d. wrote: If it was all of fel, the person who was "it" could just hide out somewhere and rack up their time like crazy. Yes... people would stay there afk, and then you would get on for a few minutes and kill them and ruin their streak, set your guy up afk.d. wrote:It would need to be an event. Would be super fun!
As an event even if you required 4 people for it to take place people could just have friends come or other accounts and just sit on it. So regardless of what you do people will try to "cheat".
But with the static area it would be impossible to "hide" or cheat, since other players could come in at anytime and kill you.
Obviously this would make it easier for people who are playing now, with a smaller playerbase than there will be in the future. However, they can always hand out statues or something to the "winners" at the end of the year and reset the board.
