I notice this especially with my tamer, the mob always seems to change target from my pet and onto me or if the mob sees me and decides to attack me and my pet is on all guard or all kill the mob will stay on me unless i invis or run off screen.
I'm just wondering if this done on purpose to stop tamers being completely nerfed in pvm, and if so, is there any chance it will be changed any time soon?

Yea I noticed this too ... but I appreciate it. The monster AI on this shard has been very surprising and keeps me on my toes. Sometimes even when I invis I still get smacked (kinda weird but peacing using kicks in before then). My tamer has to do something else besides vet all the time. I think this is one of those things AoV has going for it.

Yeah it's intentional, it's part of the smarter AI. It's like this on OSI too apparently. Mobs tend to rotate between targets. You'll notice in gaunt when everyone is tanking DF it tends to randomly pick another target and move away, or toss a spell at another person, etc. Watch for blood oath too.

The AI is very smart on the shard and will often surprise you. It is not uncommon for a monster to take a liking to the tamer (or somebody else) in the middle of battle.Dollpartz wrote:I notice this especially with my tamer, the mob always seems to change target from my pet and onto me or if the mob sees me and decides to attack me and my pet is on all guard or all kill the mob will stay on me unless i invis or run off screen.

You should try fighting a boss like melisande or dread horn. They know who is the weakest target and will often make sure to kill them off first.
Of course, the AI is not really meant to overly frustrate or deter and we understand that some things might be a bit too much. It's meant to keep you on your toes when fighting so battling the same monster might throw you a few surprises from time to time.
Red has lowered the chance to target the tamer on numerous occasions and we're still tweaking the values so if you tamers are still finding it happens way too often, then by all means, let us know about it and we'll take a look.
Same goes with monster casting intensity, but that's a bit easier for us to determine as we can research that ourselves (But player feedback certainly helps!).

Ah ok, that explains a few other things for me, like mobs following me around walls and cliffs instead of standing there looking foolish.
My favorite is when I pick on a bull or hind and it runs away like a coward instead of stiffing out the fight.
Don't run! It'll only make you tired
I can see the definite plus side of this system, but it just feels like a tamer template is completely useless now

I find that to be a tamer here you REALLY have to be very skilled and need to have high resists. You also must have med and magery so you can heal from a distance, because standing next to your pet when it's attacking something strong/smart is just asking for a quick death. So really, unless you have the most uber suit on the shard (I probably have the best tamer suit and only just manage to get above 50 in some resists with phys and fire at 70, all pieces meddable, 2/6 casting and still hitting the 1500 luck cap), you will need to sacrifice lots of luck for resists and meddable armor. It's kinda lame, I find it much easier to fight stuff with my mage or archer than with my tamer. I would think that it should be the other way around.

Tamers are definately harder to play comapred to other shards. It is very similar on OSI, they also have target switch algorthms as well as loyalty drop if pet is not in LOS. Probably not EXACTLY like here mind you but similar. RunUO has made playing tamers way too easy so we've aimed to change that to make other templates viable. They all have their ups and downs and in groups different templates will have different tasks. for example in gaunt tamers tend to have the job of luring/tanking while dexxers help but they can stop tanking at any time to heal while pets are tanking, meanwhile mages can help heal pets/players. It's all about team work.
But alone, personally I find archer is the easiest to play, though I also enjoy my leech melee char.

I have a suit thats 70/70/54/62/70 2/6 max luck 32 lmc 100 LRC 45 DCI All medable. But yes putting together a suit like that is REALLY hard.dprantl wrote:I find that to be a tamer here you REALLY have to be very skilled and need to have high resists. My othe two tamers' suits arent nearly that goot but my necro tamer makes up for it wiht having undead minions and grims, witgh so many undead around most things dont target my necro tamers very often. My disco tamer is pretty much usless since I dont have magery on that tamer. (almost full 70s on a 1500 luck suit tho) I can really only use the disco tamer in concert with my best tamer or in a group with other players (but working with my other tamer its 2 full packs so its a pain to keep everything healed using only one character but doable if your quick, just such a pain I dont do it often).
In gerneral if m just looking for a quick fight or soemthing or a relaxing dungeon crawl I'll just hop on my sammy fencer or my archer. They are by far easier to kill pretty much anything. Hell its as easy to solo gaunt on my Sammy as it is on my tamer and with perfection luck bonus its about the same luck bonus.

Sammy = Samurai. Or more specifically, one who has trained the art of bushido.Vaneldarou wrote:What is a Sammy?
