nah man thats real. seen it before well over 12 years ago in one of my mothers bird/backyard/gardening mags.

Looks pretty legit. I'm sure the mother was probably like "Well frick, I'm swooping down and you're in the way. Okay, well I'm landing on your head then".

Reminds me of the family of common loons we had at the cottage. Every morning they'd be sleeping on the dock (1 mother, 2 babies). When my dad got up in the morning to turn the pump on in the boathouse, they would leave and the little one would jump on the mother's back and hitch a ride. Was cute to see, one baby loon swimming next to its mother and the other one being lazy and having a snooze on her back.
