Is this Age of VALOR or Age of the f-ing Salvation Army?

Post by DOCTOR THUNDER »

To those it may concern, you really need to quit fucking begging. Seriously, at least give me 10 minutes of playing the game before blowing up public chat begging me for stuff. I am so tired of it, that even asking makes me mad. I play this game for fun, I work hard for what I have, its not my job to search thru ALL my stuff to find you a set of earrings with 14 phys, fc1, 25 EP, and 14 healing or a tunic with 20lrc and x/20/13/2/x resists. It would be one thing if it happened from time to time, but it happens about 5 times EVERY time I log on. Sometimes the default server messages have not even shown up yet and someone is asking me for something.

IF I HAVE STUFF TO TRADE, I WILL PUT IT IN FORUMS. As should you, if you are looking for certain items. From now on, I will NOT respond to trades in game. If you are looking for something or want something of mine, post it on forums and inform me of that in game. That way I can check on it in MY LEISURE, not right that second. It is taking the fun out of the game for me.

So, to sum it all up:

#1. Do not ask me to give you stuff. Do not even hint at it, no matter how subtle you think you are, it will still piss me off. Its best not even to think of even asking, you are ruining the fun for both yourself and me.

#2. Do not ask me if I have anything to trade. If you really need that 120 tactics scroll, post it on the fuckin forums. I read the forums religiously, often my web browser is open to the AoV forums as I play. Simply let me know that you posted a new thread in the gauntlet mall section. I promise that I will read it.

GRRRRRRRRRRRR, some of you are really getting on my nerves.

lol. Interesting post. I agree with you on the subject though. Because UO turned into an item centered game, greed has become a very large aspect of the game. People want more and more and more.

Look at when staff host events. Half the players will not join an event for the fun of the event (Beating up people, bragging rights, etc etc) unless there's a prize incentive. Even then, people will complain that the prize is "not good enough" even though they did maybe 10 minutes of the event.

I blame AOS with the introduction of artifacts. UO grew on that idea and now everyone wants artifacts. Runic gear is only starting to make a comeback with recent changes making runic gear better. There's still people who would rather deck themselves with artifacts than to actually collect good items.

Furthermore, because artifacts are naturally a pain to obtain and require camping, it becomes a chore to deck yourself out in shinies so players beg for it instead.

This is why I loathe the artifact/super item aspect of the new UO age and praise the old system where close to everything was available to you during the start of the game (Reagents, max armors to buy). Skills you obtained would give you higher quality to gain a smaller advantage but nothing major.

Everyone wants stuff for free. Someone wanted to borrow my suit for the pvp tournament even lol.

Thats why I plan to not have prizes for the auto event system, it is meant strictly for fun of it, people who go to events just for items normally don't end up doing too much.

Personally, I think the prize should be bragging rights and point accumulation. Having your name on a board of the meanest event players is a good prize. Then you could get a nice gold trophy for it.

Yeah once I get into the mysql data engine I want to have the system store stats. Then you will be able to view them online (like factions).

Wow, great post. It needed to be said, again. The sad thing is that in two weeks you'll be saying the same thing to the same person(s).

You are writing in english, but without punctuation it might as well be in greek. I think there are really two sentences hiding in there.

The asking and begging is just annoying and it is out of control. I left Doc afk for 15 minutes and I have 2 messages asking for stuff. Then I go to luna bank and someone flags me down, "hey, hey, hey, DOC, DOC, DOC! Do you have ------?". That happens almost every damn day.

I will think I had died and gone to heaven if you can get the ranking system down like Hybrid. The system on there works like this:

there are infinite "level" ranks to aquire, though it takes a very long time.

-If you kill someone above your level, you will gain a greater amount of dueling experience, depending on the level difference.
-If you kill someone below your level, you will gain a smaller amount of dueling experience, depending on the level difference.
-If you die to someone about your level, you will lose a smaller amount of dueling experience, depending on the level difference.
-If you die to someone below your level, you will lose a smaller amount of dueling experience, depending on the level difference.

Here's how it would be implemented and would work:
-everyone starts at level 1.
-it takes progressively larger and larger amounts of dueling exp to reach the next level rank.

example:
1- Player A kills players B,C,D,E,F,G all once. Player A becomes level two with a score of 6-0.
2- Player B kills players C,D,E,F,G,H,I. Player A becomes level two with a score of 7-1.
3- Player B Now skills C & E 4 times each, Player B becomes level 3 with a score of 15-1 (the last 8 kills were people a level under player B)
4-Player Z starts the but is skilled and decides to duel. Player Z kills player B in 3 duels. Player Z jumps to level 2 with a record of 3-0. Now, since player B lost 3 duels in a row to someone 2 levels under them, they loose enough EXP to drop back to level 2.

Ofcourse this is just a very rough example, and the math is way off, but it's just to show the main idea. The reason this is such a good system, it bases ranking levels on the DIFFICULTY of your opponents, just not how many opponents you slaughtered. Any decent pvper can kill noobs all day long and rank up 100's of kills. However, if the top fighters duel eachother all day and a few of them beat the rest over and over, they will gain exp and the others will loose exp. It also gets to a point where a level 12-13 person will gain only maybe 1% from a level 1-2. That means that for high levels to progress they need to fight people their skill level 11-14's.

I HIGHLY recomend either Death or Red Squirrel log onto hybrid and go to a dueling arena and view the ranking board if you guys are not familiar with the system.

BTW, on there the ranking system is only based off of saying [Duel on there and selecting the type of duel.
On there, tournies are auto ran and the 1/2/3 winners get gold, silver, bronze trophies with their name, the event type, and the date.

IMO Hybrid has had the best duel, ranking, and tournament systems I have ever seen. I recomend to any player to check it out to see if they would like it on valor. I give it an A+.

Hmm that could be something neat to do actually. In fact I could apply this to every day pvp, not just events.

Yes, you need to check out their actual system Red. I doubt you can get your hands on their code for it. But the math behind their ranking levels is absolutely brilliant.

Yup I remember my first day or so on the shard, puffman saw i was new, decked out my tamer....and i didnt need to (and haven't) improve on it. So whenever apple puff wants anything I will give it to him, just as i let his brother go through my stuff and help himself to what he wanted/needed.

What goes around comes around.

I really would prefer to play like i did when i first started in UO...a GM suit...bring back the good old days :)
