Blessed/insured items are under the rule that they must be in the top level of your backpack and not contained within any pouches/bags in your pack. If you put a blessed item within a bag or another container in your bag, it is void from this rule (Because somebody can just take the bag itself).

It's one of those uo "gotcha" things, kind of like forgetting to auto-renew your insurance. Unfortunately, there's no real preventative measures for this and is something you have to experience to learn.

Just an FYI. It seems that OSI has "fixed" the problem with blessed items in a bag being lost. I just tried this on a temp account (I put a spellbook in a bag and then died). Once ressed, the spellbook was in my backpack at the main level...

Edit: just tried with an insured item and same results... It was in my backpack after res.

Actually I was thinking of doing it that way, though on the other hand, its about the only way to get something good out of a pk kill. But I'll see how hard it would be to pull off, probably not too bad.
