I just did a small update and decided to make login.uovalor.com the login server and uosrv.uovalor.com the actual server. This has no real effect as they are both on the same box, but having two seperate DNS names will make it easier to transition everyone over to the new server if we upgrade as I can switch the login server IP ahead of time to TC1's login server then do a seamless IP update on TC1 without actually bringing the shard down. Though you will need to disconnect and reconnect to get on the new server, but I'll announce that ahead of time.
Though keep in mind this upgrade is experimental, I may end up not doing it, but I'm really hoping it works out, to have the shard in a VM.
Once I change the login.uovalor.com DNS pointer to TC1 you may notice a slowdown when logging in, but once you are in, there should be no difference.

The login server changes have now started propagating. So far it looks good.
You will notice the local host server listing, ignore it, still choose "Age of Valor".
Basically this is what is happening:
You log in to login.uovalor.com which goes to TC1's login server which is hosted at my house in a VM.
Then you pick the server, then you are redirected to uosrv.uovalor.com which is the live shard on the The Planet server.
If/when I move the shard to the new server I'll simply change the IP in the TC1 login server to bypass DNS and go straight. Once its been a few days I'll update login.uovalor.com and make it esolve to the new server and all will be good.
This will be pretty much seamless.
I'm still uploading data to the new server before I can perform the VM test. It's taking forever, and the download crapped at 80% so I'm now pushing it via sftp instead of pulling with wget. 7% now, WAY faster, should of did this from the start...

I like logging into the server right now. The game collapses on itself.

If you give someone a program, you will frustrate them for a day; if you teach them how to program, you will frustrate them for a lifetime.

It's nothing BAD. When you go to the server, the character list came up. So when you entered with your character, the client minimized and wouldn't come up.Red Squirrel wrote:what? it should not be doing anything bad... whats happening exactly?
