AF, help me for to obtain a job.

Post by flowergirlajg »

Well, I'm sixteen now, and it's high time I enter ye olde workforce.
Any tips for getting your first job? I'm pretty horrible at it so far; I've applied to about 10 openings without a call.
Halp.

Apply everywhere, an when you are finished with that, apply everywhere else.

Try to be realistic about what kind of job you are going to be able to get. Unless you've got some serious connections, your first job is not going to be great. That being said, don't be afraid to apply to any job you think you can do. The worst that can happen is they file your application away. On the other hand they could call you back. Heck, one time I went into an interview, didn't get the job I applied for, but was offered something else. You may also want to check about internships at your school. Sometimes you can get one that's paid, but if not even unpaid internships are work experience and can help you find a job later.

Also, you may want to try working up a resume andor cover letter for some of the stuff you are applying for. It may seem silly given the kind of jobs you are looking at, but it shows that you care about it more than simply filling out a form and allows you to explain yourself and why you want to job beyond what they can see on an application. It may make you stand out from the crowd enough to get an interview.

Lastly, there is always the temp agencies. I've worked a couple good temp jobs before, but most are kinda crap. Some only last a day or two. But again when it comes to find a nicer more stable job, every bit of work experience helps. They are probably not going to be able to work with you as much around your school schedule, but you might be able to pick up one of those day or two long jobs on the weekends.
