I made the mistake of assuming somebody understood the world more than they did. So I reached out to them, told them I could be their friend, that I thought they were cool, and I was completely rejected.
I hate the fact that no matter how hard I try, it always ends in me flicking up. What's my problem? Do they have pills for social ineptability?
I'm just so tired of people saying they want to be friends with everybody, that they are accepting, and then rejecting me.
What the hell did I do wrong here? Its so unfair. I try so hard to be nice to people, and I'm just a freak. They laugh at me, and I am trying so hard to see it on their level.
Christ. I can't believe I was dumb enough to assume an 8th grader had an even remote grasp on life.

We all can make bad assumptions sometimes.
I made the assumption that the coop student at work who is in 11th grade and wants to be a game developer would know that it's not possible to break the internet by typing google into google.
I almost had the poor kid crying since he thought he broke all of the internet and would get in trouble for it.

Well, now you know that they are NOT cool, and that has nothing to do with you, and everything to do with them.flowergirlajg wrote: I made the mistake of assuming somebody understood the world more than they did. From what I can tell regarding your interactions with people here on this forum, you are certainly not socially inept. Of course, there are some important differences between forum interactions and face-to-face interactions, but I'm sure you will eventually find those people with whom you fit right in. (Just don't try fitting in with the people who are taking pills to solve their social inadequacies.)I hate the fact that no matter how hard I try, it always ends in me flicking up. What's my problem? Honestly, I would be taken aback by a stranger asking to be my friend. Do they pity me? Do they have some sort of insecurity? Friendships evolve from acquaintances; they require commitment. I would fear that they have a shallow definition of friendship.
That being said, I have an extremely difficult time forming and maintaining friendships, so feel free to ignore this post.

I see your point, but he wasn't a complete stranger, just a kid I never thought to say hi to.Chris Vogel wrote: Honestly, I would be taken aback by a stranger asking to be my friend. Do they pity me? This all occured over Facebook (naturally) and he was basically pleading for attention and friends and the like, so I came forward and he deleted my post (which, by the way, just said "I'll be your friend :]")
The simplicity of it was what upset me. And then I felt bad for putting him in that situation.

It sounds like he has the issues, not you.flowergirlajg wrote: he was basically pleading for attention and friends and the like
Don't try to see eye to eye with idiots. You'll end up on the ground.I am trying so hard to see it on their level
Just be yourself. and who gives a crap if what you said isn't accepted by some immature 8th grade kids? You were trying to be friendly and that's who you are. Don't let them make you ashamed of that.
