Unsatisfactory restaurant food

Have you ever sent anything back to the kitchen at a restaurant because it wasn't cooked correctly?

My wife and I ate at a small-town cafe last week. I usually order a cheeseburger whenever I go out to eat, since I'm fairly picky and never know if I am going to like something the way the restaurant prepares it. I figure they can't go wrong with a burger. Well, most places can't go wrong with a burger.

The price for a cheeseburger and fries was $6.25, and the bacon cheeseburger was $6.95. Why do they charge 70 cents for two little strips of bacon? That's outrageous, but I do like bacon, so I ordered the bacon cheeseburger. I asked what else came on the burger, and the waitress said, "Nothing, just bacon and cheese." I asked how much extra for lettuce and tomate, and was told it was 50 cents each. I have reluctantly spent 8 dollars for a burger and fries before, so I ordered the lettuce and tomato, but I sure felt a bit ripped off because of it. The piece of tomato was an anemic one-eighth inch slice and there were three little pices of lettuce.

I took the first bite of the burger, and it crunched as I chewed it. There was a layer of char burnt on the bottom of the patty. I'm actually not that picky about burnt spots, but the patty was so thin that all I could taste in this burger was the char. I sent it back to the kitchen, and the second burger came back with a bit of char on the bottom, but the patty was much thicker so I didn't taste it as much.

Then the waitress asked if we wanted the price of the burger removed from our bill, or if we wanted two free pieces of pie. We figured that we could buy a whole pie with the eight dollars that the burger would have cost, so we took the price reduction. I wasn't expecting to get the burger free, so I can't complain that much about the cafe, but I still don't think I'll be going back there.

Sounds like crappy service, well maybe not the service itself, but the fact that nothing came with the burger. If you get a burger at mcdonalds or another place it normally comes with stuff on it.

I've never actually had to send my food back before, but I don't eat out a lot. I did, however have to walk out of a restaurant once. It was an IHOP in DC, my family decided to eat there after helping move my sister into an apartment nearby. This was during the winter, and the they had the generally crappy heat on full blast, and with already aggravated allergies, I was having trouble breathing. Couple that with an incompetent waitress that told me that they were out of what I had ordered about 20 minutes after the fact (the place wasn't busy at all), and I had to leave. Much longer and I'd end up making myself sick. I started walking till I found a McDonalds a few blocks up the road.

Actually that's what I hate, restaurants that don't regulate their temp properly. Either way too cold or way too hot. Think we've walked out of restaurants multiple times because of this. Worse is being sit down right next to the door in winter when it's busy.

I was irritated when they changed the appetizer menu at Applebee's. Me and my boyfriend used to share the mini bacon cheeseburgers and some motz sticks or something. We used to get 4 little burgers that came with a side of lettuce and tomato. Now you only get 3 burgers, you have to pay extra for bacon, and you have to ask for lettuce and tomato (at least that part is free). It's hard to share half a burger so now we usually get 2 orders of the burgers cuz they're so good. Only after 9 tho =] half off appetizers.

My family and I went to this restaurant when we went to New York for vacation, and we went to some restaurant called "Mars" and some numbers like "Mars 3120" or something. It was supposed to be like a "restaurant on mars" or something...it actually looked really cool. They had a really awesome atmosphere, even the waiters and waitresses looked like aliens.
So we waited like 20 minutes to be served (It was fairly busy, but 20 minutes is a long time). So after the waitress-alien took our order, we waited another hour and a half before we decided to leave. Like I said, it was busy, but the only way i'm waiting an hour and a half for my food is if i'm making it myself.
