Okay. So it's only about 14k, but c'mon. Who needs a car when you have advanced simulations of a car in a framerate that surpasses the speed a photon can travel a planak length in a second? I know I dont.

Also...two 30 inch LCDs...Who the hell needs that? Nobody. Who wants it just for bragging rights and so he can play WoW AND Crysis at the same time? Me.

Here we go. Finally got it uploaded to a site =P

yeah. That's right. Three 160GB Intel Solid State Hard drives. And a 1TB hard drive to back it all up.
oh, and 2 Nvidia GeForce 295 GTX graphics cards. 1GB of dedicated video memory per card. QUAD SLI.
12 GB of DDR3 ram.
And the new Pentium i7 processor. Quadcore with 8mb of cache. 3.2GHz, oh and it automatically overclocks itself if temperatures allow. EPIC.

Now, if I only had 14.6k lying around...

That is one expensive T-shirt. Will that 12 GB of RAM be enough to handle Vista though? :D

You don't put vista on a machine like that, you put a good operating system. :D

you must be referring to WinME - known for security, stability, and features*

"security, stability, and features" refers to "keeping call centers and/or help desk employed" here.

lol. I'm gonna get the Vista 64-bit. But they give you the actual operating system CD with your computer. So I can (and probably will) easily take it off and put XP on. I'll also probably set a partition on the 320GB Western Digital drive for Linux so i can learn. Or at least run a linux VM.

Yes. A floppy drive. I figure if i am able to run the universe from my desk, I should be able to take data in whatever form it is presented.
Also, it would kinda take away some of the cool factor if for some reason some awesome game or program is on a floppy drive my buddy has and I can't do anything about it because my PC has no floppy drive...That'd just piss me off.

Red, you're somewhat right imo. But Video cards don't become old news that quickly. In fact, the rate that they're improving is steadily declining. So those video cards will be good for a few years. And when they do suck, i'll just buy two new ones. ;)

Same goes for proccessors...

cpu growth rate has actually declined quite a lot since like, the P4 I find. The GHz have pretty much been staying the same, now it's more a question of cores, cache, wattage etc.

And now that you mention it you're right about video cards too. At one point it seemed every week a new video card came out, and not only was it better, but it had some kind of technology in which you NEED that card to play any games that come out right after the card.

Now it seems to have greatly slowed down, which is good, as I don't really agree with them pumping out so much products, I rather see something really good come out, and it stays really good for a while. Gotta give those Chinese kids a break, as soon as they get a hang of the new design they have to make something new! :P

lol, I remember just a few years ago during the Nvidia 7000 series cards. I remember when the Nvidia GeForce 7850 was the greatest thing ever. I now have two of them lying on my bed right now i got for free because my friend upgraded /facepalm. They aren't in my computer cause my motherboard doesn't have a pci express slot >.<

But then the 8000 series came and the 8850 was the best thing ever and blah blah blah.

So yeah i figure whatever I buy is gonna last a lot longer than what i'd have bought 4 years ago.

I kinda used to be the same way, but I think the floppy is officially dead now. Anything you need a floppy for you can use a flash drive or a cd. Most PCs nowadays can even boot to a flash drive. Mind you I still have floppies lying around my house and nothing to read them with. doubt much of the data is still readable anyway.

Thats one major problem is booting. Very few PCs even in today's day and age, can successfully boot off USB. It's sad really.

It would take over 47 502 floppies to back up my videos folder. How am I supposed to hide those from my mom?

have always had and will definitely have a floppy drive in my next system - never can tell when I might want to access my floppy disks out in storage that I know are still working. Which is infrequent now but can still happen.

My plans this year are to buy a new system (as in pay a local shop) that will be post-2001. Going to this newfangled PCEI and SATA.

Well, the floppy drive is like $4. I don't think i'll regret spending so little money on something that can be useful in some situations.

Booting from USB? I think my current POS PC can boot from USB...

lol it's funny since it's true. Will be a Tigerdirect barebones front page deal for $399. :P

Really I find technology is moving WAY too fast these days, and they're skipping on quality. Like look at SSDs everyone is jumping on them because they're new, but they're also 400 bucks for 32GB, and they are guaranteed to fail the more you use it! So a regular drive is bigger, cheaper, and will last longer.

I'm only going to be using it for windows and WoW. So if it fails, all my data is still stored on my 1TB drive, with a partition that happens to have windows AND WoW already installed. So when my SSD does fail, i just have to boot from my HDD and i'll be good to go. ;)
