I officially switched to Opera
Yes, you heard me.
Firefox 1 was great, 2 was ok but had issues, 3 is just too bloated. It's not BAD, like Vista Bad, but it's just slower, and has weird issues like favicons always changing, random freezes while in the middle of typing etc.
One thing I will miss is the spellchecking though, and noscript. But other then that Opera seems like a really fast browser.

oh man and another thing I will miss is the tool bar bookmarks. Can't seem to do those in Opera.

Not to try to lure you back into the fold, but have you tried MinefeildShiretoko? It's the pre-release of the next version of firefox, and actually rather stable from what I've seen. It's significantly faster than the current version of firefox.

I use both real browsers interchangeably depending on the task (I love features in both of them), and Internet E*****er just for netflix - even version 7 is incredibly worthless for anything useful aside from web development testing.
and Opera does have spellchecking available

Hmm I'll give it a try.manadren wrote: Not to try to lure you back into the fold, but have you tried MinefeildShiretoko? It's the pre-release of the next version of firefox, and actually rather stable from what I've seen. It's significantly faster than the current version of firefox.
I'm still not 100% hooked to opera, I'm starting to find little things that I miss from firefox, like being able to type in urls directly. In opera they just give an error, I have to google search it then click the link. Stuff that sounds silly but when you're used to a certain way I guess...

Well to give it another chance (was already starting to miss it LOL) I did a full uninstall + delete profile then reinstalled. We'll see if that fixes the issue. I also disabled the updates, I think it's an update that caused all my issues.
Had lot of stale extensions too like stuff that was "neat" but just that, like piclense. Now it's a fresh install and the only extension I'll add is noscript for now.

lol. Sounds like you're trying to force the switch to a new browser... is there really a point?

yeah, excess extensions tend to bloat firefox more than anything else. Still, there's a few I can't live without, like adblock, which keeps me from trying out opera or chrome seriously.Red Squirrel wrote: Well to give it another chance (was already starting to miss it LOL) I did a full uninstall + delete profile then reinstalled. Isn't Safari supposed to be good for internet surfing? I don't use it, mostly cause it's Mac. I hate Mac with all my soul.

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.

Safari on XP is like Liberace at the Super Bowl.Reaper wrote: Isn't Safari supposed to be good for internet surfing? I don't use it, mostly cause it's Mac. I hate Mac with all my soul.
The underlying rendering engine is awesome. It just needs an interface that at least attempts to use its platform’s common look and feel.

Safari is usable for internet surfing, but you're 84% more likely to come across lions, hyenas, and angry hippos if you use it.Reaper wrote: Isn't Safari supposed to be good for internet surfing? I don't use it, mostly cause it's Mac. I hate Mac with all my soul.

I decided to change my opera skin after seeing this thread title for the umpteenth time, found a good skinny one. Nice not reloading the browser.

I don’t see the point of application-level theming. I expect every application to use my system theme.Cisco_Kid wrote: I decided to change my opera skin after seeing this thread title for the umpteenth time, found a good skinny one. Nice not reloading the browser.

Same opinion here aside from web browsers. I prefer the win2k or simple no eye candy look on WinXP (with a green tinge for quite some time now), but do not care for the standard or bulky standard appearance when using Opera or Firefox.Chris Vogel wrote:I don’t see the point of application-level theming. [edit: put more succinctly, I prefer the slim look usually and like everyone else want a different look at times]
Explorer does not count in the web browser category and I have made no attempts to change that look.
