I have to press some keys and move my mouse and then i'm prompted to put in my password. Then it'll go to my desktop. The file is downloaded but there's always an error about not being able to connect. My internet connection turns off when it goes into standby i think. Would that effect the download?
Assuming you have a PC, go to Control Panel and then either System or Monitor, and turn off the sleep/hibernate/standby mode. That happens to me on long downloads, it will go to sleep and the internet sometimes disconnects.

lol this brings back fond memories of dialup. Where it would cut out for no reason in the middle of a download (a 10MB download would take several hours back then :o). Leaving the mail client open to check mail every 5 minutes would remedy this. :P

Do Windows users have problems with standby?

I agree about the monitor; I let mine dim after 30 seconds of inactivity and then turn off after ten minutes without any sort of screensaver in between.

Control Panel → Performance and Maintenance → Power Options. In the classic view, it’s simply the icon labeled “Power Options.”

If you plan on using standby manually, you might want to stop the mouse from being able to wake the computer, that way you don’t accidentally take the computer out of standby whenever you bump your desk. (You can tap the keyboard instead.) That option is somewhere in the mouse’s control-panel entry.

Have modern applications gotten any more compatible with limited accounts? I remember getting frustrated and switching back to an administrator, which is a shame.

My PC has those settings at System → Preferences → Power Management. :P

okay so i turned off standby mode and made the monitor shut off after 10 minutes. I can't seem to make it wake up only from the keyboard though...
anyways, it's downloaded. So thanks for the help.

You can't wake it up? Have you tried turning it on?

I've never seen standby actually work properly in ANY version of windows. It goes to standby, and it basically just freezes. Then you have to hold down the power button to force it to shut down.

Oh, that keeps the mouse from waking up the whole system if it’s asleep. I don’t know how to keep it from waking up the monitor.

My parents’ XP desktop goes to sleep instantly and wakes up almost as fast without any sort of problems, and it’s six years old. Charlie even does it flawlessly on Ubuntu. I didn’t realize Windows users had any problems; I just thought my friends turned their laptops off between classes because they didn’t know any better. :P

You can start off by killing stuff and experimenting with different skills (magery, or swords, etc). As your first char I would not worry so much about having a set template, just experiment.

As far as what to do, just explore and get to know the lands. Also note that if you go to felucca you can get PKed, but anywhere outside of felucca you can't. If you join any events you do not loose anything, so you can try events too (you get popup notice).
