The people I've met through the years who are from the south have left me with a good impression in that they've generally been good-humored and friendly.

i dunno, the farthest south ive ever been is missouri. but i do know you're very friendly chris, if that helps any lol.

i also know you southerners like to make fun of minnesotian accents. whats that all about? i have a friend who moved to tennessee and her friends down there would laugh at her minnesotain accent

I know a lot of people, especially older people, who have migrated to the South from the Midwest. People do tease them about their accents and definitely the whole pop/soda thing, but it’s a friendly kind of teasing – milder than the kind I got in Massachusetts. (Confidential to Bay Staters: Years of national media and a nagging sense of Southern inferiority have left us talking not so much like moonshiners.)

The accents on Corner Gas are adorable, especially the “sorry.” (People here, myself included, say it like “saw-REE.” The characters on the show say it somewhat like “sore-REE.")

when I drove truck, I managed to find my way through from georgia to california, new hampshire to Utah.

The accent which got me the most was Arkansas, altough be it 'english' it was completley not understandable. It was it's own language.

when I spoke it was a dead give away, and I'd normally get, 'ya'll from up north'

Now the strangest and most difficult part to understand, is altough I be from Canada, I can still apriciate an american televisioin productions for example
west wing (cancelled)
cheers (cancelled) - location was Boston, filmed in califormia ( i think)
Lost
and
dexter - miami florida

what gets me is, each television show listed has a 'northern' accent, I think very similar to my own, yet some think I would have a strange accent if i was down south, which begs the question, do they dub the shows with a southern accent? or are they not aired down south?

and my pronouciation of sorry would be more like the 'sore-re' option

saw-ree sounds like some hot Asian chick way of saying it. Like that hot waitress at the Chinese food restaurant after accidentally knocking over the salt while pouring you a 3rd coffee.

Southerners grow up with those same shows, so comprehension isn’t a problem.

Interestingly, people in Murfreesboro sometimes have a hard time understanding me, and talking to an anglophone from Toronto (purely business-related) was a real chore. (Murfreesboro is a large city near Nashville, and I‘m from a small town near Alabama.) The biggest issue seems to be the long I; bike sounds like back when I say it.

just god back from canada. And yes its true you say 'eh', although many pronounce it 'heh'.

ive been saying eh.
And red, I think I saw you in a cafe in calgary.
