Car Crash
So i got into my first REAL accident this morning...I ran into this guy. He stopped really quickly and it was snowy/icy and my anti-lock kicked in and i ran into him... So now car insurance for me is gonna cost around $10,000,000,000,000,000,000 per day because i'm under 25 and male.
I'll post pics when i get them.

Wow. Since the accidents I've been in, that seems unbelievably minor. First one I was in was kind of the same, but the roles reversed. I was sitting still and someone hit us in the back doing 30.
Most recent one was much more. . .traumatic.

OHHHHHH that sucks. You're best to just park the car and wait till you hit 25 to insure it again. I'd be scared to know what you'll have to pay now.
I pay about 1.2k per year and the car is in my dad's name. If I put it in my name I'd be paying over 5k, which is more then what I paid for the car. It's rediculous.
Car insurance is highway robbery. I would rather just not have any, and if I wreck my car, then I pay for a new one, but in the long run I saved thousands anyway.
My worse nightmare is hitting a person though. Since no matter what the situation is, its your fault, and they'll sue you for millions and you're basically homeless for the rest of your life. Someone can literally jump in front of your car, and its still your fault, then their family will sue if he dies, if he lives then he'll sue too. Sucks how this world is all run by lawyers who make these kind of decisions.

The deductible for my parents if they get in an accident is like $250 dollars. The deductible if i get in an accident is $690... they could BOTH get into accidents at the same time in different cars and it would cost us less than me getting into 1 >.<
What ticks me off is lately i've seen some HUGE dimwits on the road. This guy was purposely swerving in front of my mom because she honked at him for trying to merge into her. My friend and i were both in the car and this guy was laughing and being a huge dick. Why doesn't HE get in an accident? I'm a good driver, i let people in and i don't cut people off and i try not to piss anybody off. But I get in an accident and this dimwit who endangered the life of not only himself, but also a woman and 2 minors just so he could have a laugh, doesn't. He's still on the road, consequence free. Pardon my french but F*ck the world.

Yeah its a piss off.
The thing that pisses me off the most is drunk drivers. With all the ads and stuff out there trying to get the message out, and there STILL is people who go and drive drunk, get people killed, get home and don't even know that they just finished killing a family of 4, while injuring a good 30 people in a pile up.
And of course they don't get caught. But the person going through a red light because he hit a ice patch, gets caught.

Wow, sounds like Canada is pretty draconian when it comes to criminal or civil liability....Red Squirrel wrote: My worse nightmare is hitting a person though. I highly doubt that it's actually regarded as automatically the driver's fault in any conceivable situation. I know it's not in the 'States.

Well if you rear-end somebody or if you're backing out of a parking space or something, then it's always 100% your fault and you have to pay all the costs for both cars. You can also be asked to pay for the person's medical bill if the accident caused them an injury. If you don't pay it, then they can sue you. It almost happened to my sister, this guy said his neck hurt after the accident even though it was a relatively low speed accident. But it got worked out somehow...Stasi wrote:Wow, sounds like Canada is pretty draconian when it comes to criminal or civil liability....Red Squirrel wrote: My worse nightmare is hitting a person though. And yes, Chris, Everybody was okay. But I have recurring day-dreams about it lol... I keep remembering that "F*ck i'm going to hit him!" feeling... and it ruins my mood.

Yeah traffic laws are screwed up, big time. The rear ending thing is the same thing here.Stasi wrote:Wow, sounds like Canada is pretty draconian when it comes to criminal or civil liability....Red Squirrel wrote: My worse nightmare is hitting a person though. Thing is, its very hard to see if theres anyone coming when your backing out because of the snow banks. Every time you back out (or even drive out, as the smart thing is to back into your driveway) its a 100% risk unless its nighttime, so you can see if theres lights coming on the road. So basically you boot it and hope that if someone is coming, you'll swerve out fast enough to not get hit. Kind of scary.
Same with non 4 way stop intersections. The ones on flat land are not so bad, but there are some really screwed up intersections here, like this one where you're probably like 30 degrees upward at a stop but the other sides don't have a stop as its a highway, so you can't see if theres any traffic coming on the other sides, so you boot it and hope nobody is coming.
Also, if you're about to hit someone backing out of their drive way, and you have the choice between hitting them or crashing into a pole or snow bank, you're better off hitting them since they'll be responsible anyway, so you don't pay for damage and you're insurance wont go up, but if you try to avoid the accident and end up in a pole then its considered a 1 car accident and you pay for your own damage and higher insurance.
The more I think of it, the more I realize how screwed up traffic laws are.
Also snow removal crews should remove at least the snow at the intersections on a daily basis, since that blind risk factor is quite dangerous. 4 way stops are not an issue but 2 way ones are. I usually try to avoid those types of intersections when driving even if it means a longer trajectory. 4 way stops are the safest since you see all the cars and they're stopped, then you wait your turn and go.

There was a time when you 'rear ended someone' you were responsible for a multitude of sins. IF for example you were the last to hit a car in a pile up, you were responsible for the whole thing, even though it started 10 minutes before you got there.
With rear ending, however, The driver is usually always 'following too close'. And there are many other examples of avoidable accidents, where, 'if only' the driver was paying attention. This isn't to place 'liable' on any driver, you can avoid an accident that would have not been your fault. Ignoring, malicious intent, it is understood, we all wish to avoid accidents.
I seriously ask my self 'where' are other drivers going? This skill isn't taught out of a book, but one of necessity. As a transport driver, it took longer to 'react' or move the machine, Consequently you compensated by anticipating other drivers actions. IF you have ever been passed by a truck ( in town, on the big roads ) it isn't because they have a faster car, it is because they can see things before they happen. ( also helps he has a larger view of the road )
Truck drivers don't only anticipate other drivers, they anticipate, traffic signals as well. timing of a light happens as soon as they can see it. If the speed limit is 30 miles/hr, they much rather do 15-20 miles, before having to stop for a light. I always laugh at drivers who are in a hurry to get to the next 'red' light.
None of this will likely help your situation, so here is something that can, depending on insurance premiums, you might want to purchase a different vehicle ( and still save money ) some vehicles can see your premiums cut as much as 'half' - if you are paying 1,000 a year, that is a savings of 500$ a year.
Next major step is take drivers training, if your insurance company recognizes it. you will save as much as the course will cost the first year.
another step is avoid any moving violations of any kind, which really means 'slow down' NEVER speed. Police will pull you over for 5miles an hour over the limit, especially if you are a young driver. 'wear' your seatbelt, and never give police the opportunity to pull you over for any reason. If you are speeding you you see an officer, hammer those brakes on, the thought 'if he sees me slowing down' will only entice the officer to pull me over does not work. The officer is thinking, 'here I am' plain as day, and this A$$hole still doesn't slow down.
Last avoid distraction. turn off the radio in your vehicle, and listen to the road. Don't use the phone, don't change the radio channel, don't change a cd. don't eat your lunch.

lol I'm sure as truck driver you see some of the most retarded drivers.
my mom was driving and witnessed this car trying to pass a log truck, but the log truck switched to the center lane to have more room for a right turn so the car tried to sneak in past on the side lane not realizing the truck was using that lane for a wide turn. Nearly got smushed.
I would actually want to see someone get nailed that way as a lesson to stupid "in a hurry" drivers. What pisses me off is tailgaters too. A while back I had one on my tail then I saw the perfect sight. A school bus stopping to pickup at least 10 kids so by law I have to stop. So I did, I could only picture that driver behind me swearing in french. I not only waited for the bus stop sign to close, but I waited till it closed the door and started moving forward, then I slooooooowly started accelerating. I make sure to make tailgaters wait, long.
