Alright. I need some good tips on how to break the ice. I've thought of a few of my own but I tend to be a little too shy myself, being without a lot of social interraction since 5th grade, but I'm slowly working on it. Especially since I might be getting a job soon, so I need to prepare for the type of situations dealing with people.
Ultimately I can't think of a good way to keep myself calm or overthink a conversation or get at a loss of words. as wondering if I could get any insights for this.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Tips
Drill a hole, about 1 inch wide, and go about 2 feet deep.
Plant dynamite, light fuse, run.
The ice should break. Repeat as needed.

Well, yeah. I guess I could do that, seeing how if I fake it, I could get fired if the manager or some one doesn't like how I'm acting off-job. However, you still need a bit of a social maturity when you're holding a job too, methinks.

Tips
Do NOT buy WoW, your situation will only deteriorate further. And talking to some random person in a mall is kind of strange. That's a lot different than talking at work, where you are (somewhat) expected to talk to customers.goalguarder12 wrote: go buy WoW LOL

Tips
Well, I already play FFXI and WoW and I've been homeschooled since 5th grade. So I pretty much have 0 social skills.
I'm just wanting to make it to where I can hold down a job and actually be worth noting should I ever get laid off for unknown circumstances. lol

First of all I don't think you need to worry about being laid off at 17. By the time that comes around, you probably will have become much more sociable. Gamestop (if you get the job) won't do that. They'll just fire you.Shinizo wrote: Well, I already play FFXI and WoW and I've been homeschooled since 5th grade. So I pretty much have 0 social skills.

Tips
Get a help desk job. Not only do you get to practice social skills over the phone, but you also learn various tactics to tell people they are noobs, without actually telling them.

yes, talking to people you don't know helps build social skills... and if you go to a place you dont normally go, and talk to random people who you think you can start up a conversation with, if you fail you'll never have to see that person ever again in your entire life. if you succeed, you may just have a date friday night

Remember, that hot night elf that's a level 70 warrior might be a GUY! Just be careful with WoW dating.

The best advice I can give is not to think about it. Seriously. Just jump into whatever conversation, feet first and go with it. The more you think about it, the more nervous you'll get.
Be yourself is generally good advice but with a caveat. Faking it can be useful, to a point. Most people who work in any kind of customer service industry and actually want to be any good at it end up with a kind of work persona. It's not something too far off from who you really are, kind of like flicking on the politeness switch. This can be a tool for talking to people in general too. Just pretend your someone just like you except more polite, or more outgoing. Putting that slight bit of distance between who you are and who you present yourself to be can help you feel comfortable with people enough to let the persona go and let the real you shine through. Never lie though, that will always get you into trouble.
of course all of this is easer said than done, but you get the idea.

I think you should work with kids. Be like a preschool helper or sommat and trust me, your social life will increase dramatically. If it dosen't, the kids eat you and you die.

Tips
I went in to check on my application. Turns out they are actually hiring, but the manager is taking a real long time off. I won't know until next week or the week after, but the manager does like me, so I feel pretty confident about getting the job.
Soon I can actually pay for my car :>

Arn't you kinda young for a car? lol. Car is not the hard thing to pay, its the insurance, specially at a young age, the insurance can easily double the price of the car.

Tips
Guess if he has the money, but harder to make thousands when still in school.
What pisses me off is that its the law that you need insurance, it should be optional, otherwise I would have a car myself, I could buy one cash right now, but it would stay parked. LOL I'll wait till its been about a year I'm working then I will be able to afford one.

Well I'm homeschooled, so I can work full time and whatnot. What they're willing to pay me though, I'm not quite certain, but I know the lowest for the position I applied for would have to be minimum wage lol.
My car insurance/payment isn't that bad. It's going to be around 300 dollars a month for both.
Besides, it's not like I do anything in real life anyways, don't even have a license so I can't legally drive it either. Mom bought the car, so I hafta pay her to keep it etc. Just kind of wish she waited until after I had a job :<
Something about how they had to get it off the lot now to make room for the 08s, cuz they overstocked lol. so we got it for cheap

I would wait, why pay monthly for something you can't legaly use? Get your license first, thats like a 1-2 year process so during that time you can save some up some more. And if you take the driver's ed course your insurance wont be as high.
