Merge?

Someone contacted me basically wanting to buy the site and domain from me and merge with his own (http://www.puretalkforum.com/) and I think there would be money involved as well. I'm just wondering what everyone would think if this were to take place.

I'm going to find out what is the best way to approach this, as I can't just bite what could potentially be a scam, but at the same time I don't want to reject it, as I lack the time for this site (hence the skin never have gotten changed lol) and if money is involved... money is always good.

Because this is a rather good domain, I'd expect a good enough sum of money for it before even considering giving it away, though.

The community would continue as far as I know, but that I can't promise. I would recommend everyone to at least bookmark Iceteks.com which is my main site so if you still all want to get together.

This is not for sure thing, I might decide against it or if I can't figure a safe process, just thought I'd throw this out to see what everyone thinks.

Chances are this process will require a lawyer at both ends, and not sure if neither of us could afford one, so this is just a thought.

Thats the thing, it could get changed, at that point its out of my control. I don't think I'll go with it, but still thinking. Depends how much money is involved.

I'd give a warning, like everyone could register to Iceteks. Really one of my big grand plans is to eventually merge all my forums together, AF, Iceteks, and AoV.

I say no. I mean if you knew who this guy was, and what his intentions really were, what kind of community AF would be merging with, and all that (and the money was really good), then maybe.

I mean sure, thee is a potential good side to this (aside from money). A better maintained forum with a larger community. But if it's a community full of WWs I don't want any part of it.

No thread hijacking. Please do not post anything in a thread that is not related to the original topic. Just make a new thread if you want to talk about something else.
None of us regular members would be able to survive here if this forum had a "no thread hijacking" rule.

Let me clear up some things for you guys.

If the merge was to take place, this is what would happen: All of AF users (and all of their settings, sigs, avatars, etc.), and posts would be moved to PureTalkForum.com and AnythingForums.com would be redirected to PureTalkForum.com.

Now, about those rules -- we go very light on enforcing them. Our main rule is no advertising spam. The rest of those non-sense rules are basically for new members to understand that this isn't just a place to spam.

Now I know change is hard and we almost always resist it, but I suggest you just look more closely at PureTalkForum.com, then make your decision. Even maybe register there and take a look at the layout. What you will notice is that it is almost exactly the same - it is very easy to use.

In addition to that, we are always updating our site and adding more features. We have customizable social networking profiles, similar to MySpace, an arcade for your enjoyment, chat, etc...

PureTalkForum.com is going to be around for a long time, so you don't have to worry about that.

I know you guys not really like the idea at first, but please just think about it before automatically saying "no"...

All-in-all, everything would pretty much stay the same for you, except there would be more members, more features, and at a different domain.

Well, I don't really want AF to dissapear, but the other forum does look pretty nice (and lots of members!), and if we all manage to still stay active posters, would it be so bad?
I'm ok with it if Red stays with us.

I'm just used to the normal people around here, Red Squirrel, Reaper, Red, Clueless, Statsi, Manadren, ect. and its pretty nice just to basically know eachother's personality (somewhat). I just think it would be a good idea just to stay separate.

Happiness is so subjective. For example, I am happy with the name "Anything Forums." The name "PureTalkForum" does not seem to roll off the tongue as nicely. And what exactly is meant by PureTalk? If this is talk that is opposite of DirtyTalk, then I am all for the Pure Talk. But if this is purely talk with no pictures, then I would rather not be limited to PureTalk. If Red gets a decent amount of money for this site, then that would make us all happier, because even though we all want this site to stay the same, we would much prefer that Red become a millionaire. (You did offer him millions, didn't you? The forum is certainly worth that much. )

Let me clear up some things for you guys.

AND girls. Don't forget the girls.

Making fun of spammers is one of the joys of this forum. Hopefully you would just remove the spammish link and keep the post there for us to ridicule.

Domains don't seem to sell like they used to, this domain was only appraised at like $150 bucks. That pays part of 1 month for my UO game server's hosting, so its not worth it imo.
