Hamas and Fatah fighting it out...

Post by Stasi »

If I were a religious man, I'd be praying for a Fatah victory over Hamas someday. At least Fatah can be reasoned with. The only "reasoning" Hamas seems to understand is laced with strongly anti-Zionist, radical Islamism or violence. As long as Hamas is in power, they will fight Fatah. I can't imagine that Fatah will ever be able to pursue peace with Israel so long as Hamas is a major player in Palestine.

I agree with you there Stasi. I don't like either, but I'd rather have a "lesser evil."
EDIT: Fatah is a militant group, right?

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience every time.

Fatah is a secular party made up of a confederation of Palestinian groups that has generally been the dominant player in the Palestinian Authority over the years. They have a militant "wing", made up of some various groups, including both Christians and muslim. Their ideology is more socialist and nationalist, rather than Islamist, unlike that of Hamas, which is violently Islamist. They don't see the lands controlled by Israel as the "Holy Land" that that they must reclaim for the good of Islam. While they don't like the fact that Israel exists, they are open to accepting and dealing with it, which has been demonstrated by Fatah's presence and efforts towards peace.

Because the destruction of Israel is central to Hamas' ideology, it doesn't make sense to think that there will EVER be peace so long as Hamas is a major player.
