Markus Wolf, the former head of communist East Germany's foreign intelligence service, has died at the age of 83, his family says.

Wolf kept such a low profile that Western intelligence services did not have his picture.

But as a key figure in the feared Stasi security ministry, he was a highly influential figure in the Cold War.

Hehehe. You finally died Stasi.

Ha, Stasi essentially died when the wall came down, E. Germany collapsed and joined W. Germany to form the BRD.

Well that's also great. I wish I new more Cold War history, so I guess that will be my next stop after the Korean War (which I just started).

Though I was born in 1980 and was still fairly young when the Eastern bloc collapsed and then the Soviet Union, I still remembered enough about pop culture, especially films with Cold War themes. I've always viewed the Cold War as being something of a romantic, classic battle between two powerful sides (romantic as in: "imbued with or dominated by idealism, a desire for adventure, chivalry, etc." - look up the definition before giving me crap for using the word).
