I’ve taken a rational, detached view of McGill based solely on finances. The numbers add up, but barely.
As much as I want to go, I don’t want to be barely making it there. I’ve been sort of ignoring the issue because, well, I just really, really, really want to go! It’s embarrassing, really, and terribly disappointing.
So right now I’m hoping for UNA (WARNING: Horrible HTML ahead. Good luck if you’re blind.), which still charges me an in-state rate since my county borders them. Most of the financial aid is unavailable to me since I’m applying so late, but a rational, detached view of the finances says I can cut it. (I know I should have applied last year even if I had my heart set on McGill, and I even knew that back then, but I still didn’t do it.)
Every plan I had for my gap year and every university I had in mind after fell through, probably because I was aiming too high. My only goal now is to go to school somewhere this year, so maybe that won’t fail. The gap year wasn’t a waste though. Working full-time at Wal-Mart thoroughly destroyed those romantic notions I had of blue-collar life. Everyone predicted that I wouldn’t want to go to college after taking my year off, but now I want to go more.

Well that sure is disappointing. Good luck to you wherever you go, be it UNA or some other place.

Well it looks like that place can change your life and your future, lets just hope it's in a good way.
Just hope you don't get a teacher like I have for scripting class.
"I don't know powershell, just saw it and it looks cool, so your assignment is to write me a script that will load up names, sort them using bubblesort, email them to me, and send to the printer. Don't ask me questions, I did not figure out if it's possible yet"

Thanks for the support, guys. My sister liked the place, and so did my mother’s friend. Florence isn’t Montréal, but it’s not Lawrenceburg either.
There are a few plus sides to this. I’ve been kicking around the idea of building an extremely energy-efficient computer, so I can get started on that for college. I can also keep my retirement savings and get a digital camera. (I need a digital camera. My avatar is almost a year outdated.)
I hope everything turns out.

Yeah, I know I said I’m not going, but I just paid my deposit to McGill. I can stand giving up my retirement savings and taking out a few student loans, and if I feel overwhelmed, I can transfer to somewhere local.
What an emotional roller coaster! Please let it be over.

yeah the most stressing part of college/university is first getting there (like applying and hoping you get accepted, finances etc) and then getting out (tons of final exams, the "I hope I don't fail any course" feeling, etc)

It’s been three hours, and I now regret making that deposit. (Yes, I know it was a mistake to make a decision when I was in a deeply emotional state.)Reaper wrote: So. . .what now? You are going to McGill? Stop confusing me.

I’m about 99% sure that I’ll be going to MTSU. I unbelievably overlooked the fact that the lottery scholarships are available to gap-year students, meaning it would be cheapest to go somewhere in Tennessee.
It will be great.
