Sound Recorder
Sound Recorder
I'd post this in the computer section but nobody ever goes there and it's a waste of time because I'd prefer a reply now rather than in 3 months.
My Windows Sound Recorder can't seem to playback anything I record, instead I get loud distorted feedback... I've tried using Audacity but the same thing happens.
Weird thing is there's no problems with the drivers or my Sound card. There are no compatibility issues with my hardware and nothing 'seems' to be faulty. Also it was working like 3 weeks ago but recently it just plays back this sh*tty buzzing noise.
To save some replies -
My Mic works fine on my other computer.
My Sound card works fine with everything except recording.
I've tried all the useless F1 Help Troubleshooting tripe (including troubleshoot wizard for hardware incompatibility).
My drivers are signed and upto date.
There doesn't seem to be a problem with anything other than playback.
I haven't made any recent immediate changes to anything concerning sound devices.
I've tried closing all programs and just using Sound Recorder.
The problem seems to involve the Mic but I've tried everything that makes sense to me.
Any suggestions?

Well, if people like me and Clueless are the only ones who respond, then posting in this section is still a waste of time.Anarchy wrote: I'd post this in the computer section but nobody ever goes there and it's a waste of time because I'd prefer a reply now rather than in 3 months.
Maybe you should borrow a different mic and see if a different mic works.

I'm no expert here, but I'd say either 1) your sound card is screwed up, but just for recording, or 2) you are picking up some insane interference somewhere.
So you might want to think about where the microphonecable is. Try to keep the microphone and it's cable as far away from any other cablesdevices and practically possible, and turn off anything non-essential (possibly even your monitor) and try recording again.

I've given up 'troubleshooting' computer problems in forums. I need to sit at the thing, curse a bunch, and figure it out after a while.

My Sound card is completely fine. It's impossible that it would only work for certain applications but not Sound Recorder.manadren wrote: I'm no expert here, but I'd say either 1) your sound card is screwed up, but just for recording, or 2) you are picking up some insane interference somewhere.

I've tried my mic on my other PC and it works fine...
Like I said it only seems to be doing it recently.

But he might also want to try the mic he currently has on a nother PC. That could help narrow it down to whether or not it's the mic.

It's not the goddamn mic! I've used my cheap, sh*tty karaoke mic on it and it's still the same.

You might want to try just tossing the whole computer and starting over.
But go ahead and keep the mic, since that works.

Okay, well, have you made sure the drivers are signed and up-to-date? Also, have you made any recent changes to your sound hardware/software?

Oh... and if you go into Task Manager, you can close all other programs so that just the sound recorder is active. Give that a try.

I've tried the Task Manager thing before and to no avail.Anarchy wrote:

Have you not realized by now that everyone in this thread is just messing with you? We don't know how to fix your problem. You just might have to bite the bullet and pay someone to try and fix it.

Nice way to cover your ass in the event that you really don't know anything about computers and feel the need to inflate your ego. Thanks for that.Stasi wrote: Have you not realized by now that everyone in this thread is just messing with you? We don't know how to fix your problem. I'm pretty sure this thread was for suggestions, not solutions, or did you mis-read that part?

It should've been evident from early on that you weren't going to get any 'easy' suggestions from anyone since you pretty well covered all the standard possible causes of the problem. I don't base my ego on how well I can divine the cause of someone's computer problems thousands of miles away.

No, you base it on your ability of knowledge, and sadly your skills failed in that area so you have to cover your ass, like I said.Stasi wrote: It should've been evident from early on that you weren't going to get any 'easy' suggestions from anyone since you pretty well covered all the standard possible causes of the problem. Just because you can write well (which you can) and can't sort my problem out doesn't mean you have to be rude about nobody here wanting to help me with something...
