Sleep Disorders
I have been having night/sleep terrors for the last five years - starting when i was 27. These episodes are different to nightmares as i usually never remember the dream but i can sometimes recall the feeling of absolute terror.
I often wake up screaming, i bolt out of bed and run into the bedroom walls/furniture in order to escape from the terror.
Recently these night terrors have been getting worse as i have now have no recollection of anything. When my partner tells me in the morning that i was screaming and running around the bedroom during the night i am alarmed.
At least before i was aware of my irrational actions when waking up.
Does anyone here experience anything similar? Also, does anyone have any other kind of sleep disorders such as apnea, insomnia, narcolepsy etc ?
If so, how do you deal with it and how does your partner/families cope?

Have you seen a doctor? Stress, anxiety, and being moody can cause sleep disorders too. Maybe you need to talk with someone?

When I was less content, I'd get insomnia far more often than I do now. As I've been taking a more active role in moving forward in my life, I feel better and have fewer things that keep me up during the day (I sleep days for most of the week).

I am under a specialist and i am receiving treatment for my adhd which initally eased the terrors. My doctor suggests that there could be a link between night terrors and adhd/asd although i am unsure about this as i can find no evidence to back this up.
I am interested in how other people find coping mechanisms for disruptive sleep.
I have recently taken up relaxation classes and tai chi thinking that this would help me find some inner balance, but the terrors have actually worsened.
I use flower remedies and have simplified my life to a degree that i find managable yet things still go bump in the night.

I was watching a show on night terror. Its scary stuff. Hopefully they can find a way to help perhaps stop them. Must suck going to bed knowing what is coming.
I experienced a few weird things during sleep, well its actually when I'm still awake but probably as I'm about to fall assleep, but I fall into a phase that I'm paralyzed and it feels like something bad is going to happen, then I need to try and snap out of it by trying to move, then I'm awake. It's really messed up. Had it happen a couple times but never thought more of it then that. The best one was when it felt like there was some kind of curtain in front of me and it was rubbing and making lot of noise, as if it was the wind pushing it, then when I snapped out of it, it was gone.
Sleep is a really weird thing though, and the way our brain works during the process is different.
Ever notice how you can never remember falling asleep? You remember the time before falling asleep, but never actually falling asleep.

I’d like to start going to bed earlier and waking up earlier, but I don’t think that’s much of a problem.
When I was a child, I had a horrible fear of burglars. I remember screaming over the most insignificant of noises during the night. I drove my parents crazy.

I wish my parents would stop going to bed so early. My room is basically between both their rooms, and I got two super light sleepers on both sides meaning I'm constantly having to watch my every move, even the way I press keys on the keyboard. Drives me nuts.
I think better past midnight, which makes it perfect for programming and that type of stuff, but can't take advantage unless my parents go out of town or something.

I'm one of these people that has to sleep with a light on so i drive my partner crazy. I think it's because i worked night shifts for a few years and i got used to sleeping during the day.
I used to have chronic insomnia as a child but for the last 2/3 years i am able to fall asleep anywhere. It creeps up on me on the bus, in work and when i'm out with friends. I daren't sit down when i'm out socializing because i know i will sleep. Maybe it is the night terrors making me sleepy. I've given up on public transport unless i am with someone who can wake me up - plus i also have night terrors during these periods which is embarressing to say the least.

Actually, out of all seriousness, wonder if pot actually would help night terrors and other disorders. Problem with that is the addiction factor though.
