There was this food that was out of date in our fridge and I told my mum it was out of date and my mum replied with "Yes, but does the food know that?!".
Lol...pretty funny...it kinda confused me also because I am not that clever at the best of times, I wondered afterwards if maybe it didn't know then it would last for ages..

you get sick once from out of date food and you'll regret it.

an once of prevention is worth a pound of cure, if the date is bad, through it out

however on occasion I have used the 'sniff' test

Expired stuff...tell me about it. I almost got poisoned for eating something that had had expired months-it was just there in the fridge!
