Just for discussion, what would people think about making mining somewhat equivelant to a weapon skill?

Here is my reasoning behind it. Shovels and pickaxes can be used as deadly weapons in real life. I grew up in the woods and was confronted by an angry guy with a shovel. Miners use shovels and pickaxes all the time, so it would stand to reason that they would know how to defend themselves with those tools.

As far as in game, perhaps make it so it counts as a weapon skill but the specials cannot be used. Kind of like a mage weapon. Pickaxes and polearms(if possible) could spawn as miner weapons.

I understand not wanting to get too far from osi on some things. A pickaxe that says "miner weapon" should be fairly easy for a new player to understand though.

That wouldn't be a bad idea. With 100% mining having the pick axe provide you with a dci advantage so if you get hit you have a chance to block it (In case a nasty elemental pops up).

yeah, too bad you can't equip shovels. They are a nasty weapon. I keep one in my jeep, mostly for digging out of mudholes. But I guess if I needed it, it would put a serious dent in someone's face.

haha yeah would rock if they could be equipped. I could make them throwable though, you double click and target a person and it shoots it LOL. I remember testing particle effects and using the shovel item id, I had a bow shooting out shovels, was amusing to see.

Whoa, does that mean you could make a throwing axe? Or even better, a magic axe from earlier Ultima's? Maybe make it work on charges or something. Although it was one-handed, so it would probably pwn everything...

I'd make it so the wep itself actually ends up at the feet of whoever you shot it at, but they'd do like maybe 40 physical damage (without resists) so it would be worth it. I'd use the weapon hit chance formula too, kind of like what I did with fukuya darts.

Still waiting Doc? It's a shame he didn't ask nicely.

Anyways, I like this idea. Now that ore eles can spawn without a Garg's Pickaxe, it would be nice for miners to be able to defend themselves without having to spend skill points in a normal weapon skill. Also, this might create some really unique PvP builds.

Yeah a throwing axe would drop at the feet. However, a magic axe is one-handed and like a boomerang:

I was just saying maybe have some poleaxe(halys, bardiches, pikes) and pickaxe type weapons spawn as miner weapons, like SoP is a mage weapon.
