Has anyone here ever considered satellite radio?
Seeing how the FCC is coming down hard on the air waves lately and it's only going to get worse.
I remember that most bad language was censored on the radio, well now all of it is. Not that this is a bad thing....or is it?
I now have sat tv that includes some Sirius music stations. Not all of them. Well, I like it. I've never heard the real versions of some songs until I listened to the Sirius stations. XM is the other service.

For $13 a month.........i might consider it.

I've tried it, I liked it, but I'm not going to pay for it just quite yet. My MP3 player has enough music for me right now, and thanks to the nice people at allofmp3.com, more cheap music is on the way!

I've not had it, but I've been around places that did, and I enjoyed the variety and material presented, but like sintekk, am not quite ready to pay for it at that level, but it is good! MP3 quality doesn't do it for me for the typical quality people use it for, CD is still the best for me.

Really? Not even at, say, 512kbps?

I don't get it why some say MP3 is low quality. It's like pretty much the same as wav. Unless it's like at a super low quality like 32Kbps or something like that. But a typical 192bit MP3, I don't hear a difference, at least, not enough for it to be an issue.

I have all the sirius music stations and it helps a lot. Like during the summer we have this outdoor speakers and we hooked them up to the T.V sat. and we have music outside. My dad likes it becasue when we have cookouts and stuff. I like it becasue we like in the woods and I can just play it as loud as I want and chill with my friends wit hno cops being called. Its a big improvment from radio........

Yeah, typical mp3's have been encoded at 128kbs forever, at that rate, you miss a bit of the hearing range on the high end(crispness), and most mp3 products, atleast last time I looked at them, give you storage rates for mp3's at 128kbs, not 512kbs which takes up a lot more room. At 192, mp3's have the ability to display all the sound spectrum again, anything under that and you miss quality.

Red, an MP3 is only similar to a wav. Wavs are uncompressed, complete representations of music, mp3's are compressed and depending on the sample rate(kbps), can have issues with displaying the 20hz-20khz sound range humans can hear. Wavs start out maximized in regard to sample rate and quality.

Yeah, gotta agree with you, 128 kbs DOES sound craptacular. That's why i'm moving away from downloading my music on a P2P and just paying a few cents to get high quality ones on AllOfMp3.

My cousin has XM and it seems pretty good.

It seems to randomly cut out during even slightly bad weather, though.

Radio suckkkkkkksssss, though...so I wouldn't mind getting satellite sometime in the near future. Lucky for me, I like a pretty wide range of music, which makes radio bearable since I have so many channels to choose from.

I'd probably go with Sirius since Howard Stern is moving there.

I don't listen to radio anymore: I have an attachment for my mp3 player that lets me play my music on the radio. I have an ecclectic range of music (from Pink Floyd to KMFDM) so radio doesn't offer much for me.

The only problem for me not listening to radio is that I wouldn't hear practically any of the new songs since all of my friends and family listen to such a narrow range of things.

Especially since I almost never watch tv, ie MTV, etc.

The stations here still play some good stuff every now and then.

Boise hasn't got any half-decent radio stations with a variety of good stuff. When I lived in Fairbanks, AK, UAF had a student radio station that would play ALL the great stuff you can't hear on mainstream radio (including KMFDM). I mean, after 10pm you could listen and hear great, crazy stuff like Lords of Acid's 'The Most Wonderful Girl' completely uncensored. They were playing a variety of Techno styles before techno got all popular, and they played a good selection of indie rock and industrial as well. The best radio stations here are PRI (90.7 with its classical music and the radio program 'Echoes') and NPR. Classic rock isn't too bad, either, but I've already got all the stuff I like on my mp3 player.

Mainstream radio (and sadly, MTV) could learn a lot from those crazy college kids.

No kidding. Boise's college radio is quite boring from what I can tell, mostly just playing classical music and... THE NEWS.

(To be fair, one of the stations does play echoes, which isn't too bad)

Thanks for caring.

I heard that before. I don't get why though, it's weird. Let's start a debate thread on wether it's true or not. :P
