I just don't get it. I mean what is the point in a computer virus. It's annoying and crap. My PC has nothing anyone want, Trust me its a fresh install. So that means nothing that important is stored on it. What some maggot want my favorites list. So they could email me asking for them. I don't care it's all the forums i go to plus media sites like ebum.com or stakeandcheese.com or any other stupid crap i have stored on my PC. I could see someone wanting my Ripped DVD movies off the PC but that would take like a month to download. Being that each DVD video is like 4 Gig's a piece. Everything else is useless. my emails are stored in an on-line server. so thats secured. Plus all my bank information is 100% locked all the time. Like i said what would be the point. One more thing i could see someone to find uses to my PC is the mass amount of storage it can hold. 240 Gigabytes of free space is a lot but for on-line storage would be Slow. I come home from work and see a message from Norton AV stating that it fixed a problem and that it was safe to use my pc again. Then i ran the full scan and if found three more bugs.

So how was your day.

I don't think a lot of them even write them to gain access to your computer or steal your files.

They do it for the same reason that little boys put potatoes in people's tailpipes and use a magnifying glass on a worm.

Yeah it's completely pointless really. But it keeps us IT people in business.

Lot of viruses now actually state in the virus email what virus it is, so that really helps us out since we just check the customer's inbox and know exactly what virus they have, prior to the scan. At first virus emails were tricky, like a story then you have to open the "document.doc .exe" file but now it's an email telling you that if you open it you'll be infected with a "virus.zip" file attached. Some even require vb runtime dll files to even run.

It's hilarious.

Well being A certified Computer tech I spotted it real quick but for some reason the sneaky little bastard found a way to dig deep into the system files and attach them to the IO.sys and Command.com files. Nasty little buggers. I deleted the IO.sys file and command.com file and Extracted new files out of the .cab files of the install disk. With of course the boot disk then at command prompt type stc and then go thought the process of where the new file are and where to put them at. Ah good. Oh for those of you that don't know those two files i've stated are files that control system startup and hardware control (ie mouse KB even HDD) without those file you might as well have a thousand dollar paperweight.

Yeah and I'm suprised copying them even worked since io.sys has to be at sector 63 (or something like that) in order for the computer to boot. Sounds like you had something similar to a boot sector virus. Those can be nasty.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was to understand that currently the trend is to write viruses that infect and then use the infected computer, and that's the 'why' you are looking for. They can write a virus to use your computer instead of their own to find computers that do have information they want. Passive hacking?

I sure would like a mac though, the more I use one, the more I like several features it has.

True lot of viruses now are to use the computer's resources. If you infect 1000 computers and have access to all of them at once, think of all the power you have, for free, to do what you wish, such as send spam.

Really, if virus writters would be nice people they'd make viruses that fight spam, the RIAA and other evil things. But NOoooooooo they have to wreck havoc instead.
