Canada's biggest issues right now:
- Legalizing Same sex marriage
- Illegalizing Pitbulls

USA's biggest issues right now:
- Justifying the war in Iraq, while killing the most people possible
- trying to convince Canada to join in the fun

Red, you really need to get out of the house more. You seem to be obsessed with the United States. You might need help.

Maybe it's because he's jealous of the economic success and military might of the US? ;)

Legalizing same sex marriage is also an important issue here in the states. Two states- Vermont and Massachussets have already legalized sam sex marriage, and other states are considering allowing it.
Oh and I'm sure that making pitbulls illegal is the 2nd greatest issue your country faces. If that is true then Canada must be a pretty boring place.
In the war in Iraq it is the terrorists that are trying to kill the most people possible not the soldiers

Yeah it's fun, not much to worry about here. And our economy has been booming and we don't have a debt that has 20 digit numbers.

Actually we could say the softwood lumber and mad cow is an issue, but it's not really on the news much.

Why Canada is better

Post by The Gheyness »

I just got back from Canada a few weeks ago. Was on vacation there...

Ummm, yeah, boring as all hell would be my phrase to describe the country as a whole? lol

And Canadians really do hate Americans, hahaha. But I'm going to point out some of the reasons that they are all idiots.

First of all, crime would be low in ANY country that has like 2 warm days a year? The rest of the time it's like one billion below zero. Look at how crime rates plummet in any US city when there is a blizzard or snowstorm, which is like every day in Canada. HELLO.

Plus, their population is a LOT smaller than ours for about the same amount of land mass. It's a well-established fact that crime is lower in rural areas. Which pretty much describes all of Canada.

US population is around 260 million or so, whereas Canada's is around 30 million?

Let Canada's population climb up about 8 times the level it is now and we'll see how low their crime rates are then. :\n
Then again, it's all theoretical since that'll never happen. Why would you immigrate to Canada when you could come to the US?

Canadians get owned by their government, which also sucks. In order to keep this mildly short, I won't go into all the ways their gov.'t sucks, just the money, cause they pay out their cold asses in taxes and at least twice as much as we do for things like gas.

They also don't have as "low" of an unemployment rate as it would appear. Not to mention it's higher than ours, even though we have 8x the people?

Most of their jobs are not "skilled" due the lack of high-tech jobs in their country. Just like other countries, a lot of Canada's "best and brightest" move to the US to fully utilize their skills, education, and income potential.

Stuff like http://www.ccsd.ca/pr/2003/censusincome.htm shows how Canada really is like a smaller version of the US in terms of distribution of wealth. Once again, I'm sure it would be higher if anyone actually lived in Canada with anything going for them.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/background/economy/poverty-line.html shows how Canadians like to BS on their poverty level.

http://www.fafia-afai.org/Bplus5/altrepf1_e.htm shows more inequality.

So why is it that you always hear so many bad things about the US, when places like Canada are just as bad and, in fact, worse in most cases? I mean, at least we're rich, can protect ourselves & our allies & our interests anywhere on the globe, and have tons more freedom compared to 99.9% of the other countries out there.

Well, it's because Canadians are all too busy being alcoholics to really do anything important. Their drinks have a much higher alcohol content (%) than ours do...not to mention huge glasses/mugs? And I swear, I don't think I met more than like one non-drunk Canadian. Freakin lushes.

And jealousy. Come on, it's understandable they'd be jealous!

If you moved into a house and got all comfortable in your neighborhood...made some friends, whatever...and all of a sudden some really hot, young, powerful, and bloody rich family moved in right next to you and got all the attention...wouldn't you be jealous, too? :P

Where did you go? Peawanuk? LOL Yeah, it would be pretty cold there being at James Bay. But most of Canada is not really as cold as people think. right now it's -7 in my city, which is a pretty warm day for this time of year. Toronto is probably above zero, which means snow actually turns into water at that temp.

And our goverment is way better. At least if you get a heart attack here you don't need to pay for medical attention. Though Paul Martin has been messing up lot of stuff involving health care, which is really too bad. Hopefully it will get straitened out.

Oh and crime is most likely to happen on cold days, since less people are outside, so less chance getting caught. But then there's tracks in the snow so more evidence, but this only applies for maybe like 1/4th of Canada. Toronto and other hot places don't get much snow. But low crime rates is definatly something to be proud about.

Unfortunatly it's true that we're less of a high-tech country and we don't have a huge military (but we don't need it) but someone has to do the labour stuff such as lumber, mining etc.

And I don't know what's this freedom thing, I mean, in the US if you have source code for a game, you get the FBI turning your house all over, or if you download an MP3, you get a $30,000 fine (or something like that), heck, you can even get sued if you're a 5 year old, a elderly, or even dead, and if you are part of an anti-war group, you're considered a terrorist.

Mind you, the US is not bad, like some people tend to say, it's just that Canada is better in some aspects such as quality of living, freedome, etc, while the US might be better in other aspects, like military, technology, and pre-bush: economy.

I was in Edmonton mostly, but I visited a few other areas. I've had a few family members and friends who've been to Toronto and they said it was a little better, but not much.
And our goverment is way better. At least if you get a heart attack here you don't need to pay for medical attention.
That's such BS, Red.

More proof of Canadian ignorance! :P

First of all, not EVERYONE here has to pay for every doctor or hospital visit. Believe it or not, there is still some benefit to being poor.

But, um...in Canada, where do you think this money is coming from? Your medical equipment, doctors & nurses & supporting staff salaries, hospitals, etc?

You think the money for that is all coming out of thin air?

NO.

You're paying for that. If we wanted to pay the HIGH butt percentage in taxes that you guys pay for everything, we could easily have free healthcare for everyone, too.

YOU STILL PAY FOR IT.

Not to mention that anyone that has a decent job already has good health care here. I dare say, our facilities and personnel are better in the States than in Canada, too. For the whole "lack of high-tech jobs" reason.

I pay $32 a month for my health care. Oh wow. The horror! Wanna guess how much Canadian taxpayers pay for their "free" health care?? LMFAO.

And check this out: http://www.ncpa.org/ea/eajf92/eajf92g.htm

It's cold, basically a rural country, and nobody has anything. What's there to steal there? You guys don't have people!!!!!! OF COURSE THERE'S NO CRIME. xD

Here in the US you have people with wads of cash, expensive jewelry and clothing, driving around in fancy cars. Come on, put 2 and 2 together.

Only an extremely small percentage of people have been even harassed, let alone prosecuted, for d/l things. Same with the anti-war group thing. Geez, way to let the media run your thinking. </3

US is still better than Canada in quality of living. But I say that as a matter of opinion. There's really no way to measure that...different people value different things.

In terms of freedom, I'd argue that we have more of that than you guys, too. Money = freedom. Thousands of more things to do = freedom.

Our economy is not as bad as the media plays it out to be, either. Like I said, we have a LOWER UNEMPLOYMENT RATE than Canada does even though we have 8 times more people. And our jobs, overall, are still better than your jobs in type and pay and benefits.

There's plenty of other bad things I can mention about Canada (how about how y'all pay 1/3 of the cost for any car accident, even if it's completely not your fault?)...but yeah. :P

Canada sucks. Teh US r00lz. <333

What about the RIAA, that alone is a reason to be happy not to live in the US. Some people like their privacy. There's been so many dumb lawsuits by them and they have the communist power to win, even if it's not justified. And the FBI, they can go in your house any time and they track down all your internet usage. I would really hate being overpowered by the goverment like that.

lmffff, first of all, only people involved in criminal behavior should be worried about that.

The people that have been sued by the RIAA have, for the most part, participated in illegal activities.

Intellectual property is property, too, Red. We have a capitalist economy...if everything were run like Kazaa, etc, we'd be doomed.

Overpowered? Does anyone here that lives in the US feel overpowered by our government? There's no huge weight on my shoulders right now...I'm not feeling like Big Brother is constantly watching me or controlling my every move.

The FBI and police don't just randomly barge into people's homes. There has to be justifiable cause...and there usually is a vast majority of the time.

Which brings me back to the point about so-called "lack of crime" in Canada, actually.

You guys would have much higher crime statistics if your police actually did anything besides wanking around and eating doughnuts.

Look at those marijuana stores all over your country, including malls? Even though it's "technically" illegal there, they rarely enforce it?? Yeah, well here in the US our police usually try to do what they're paid to do...enforce the law.

If your police started arresting and your courts prosecuting people who did drugs more often, your crime rates would rise as well. You guys just choose to be unethical and turn a blind eye to it.

They mention a lawsuit right on the front page. If you guys didn't already have a tax on yer cd-r's, I'm sure they'd be happy to sue too.

That site has got to be a joke. Since it's legal here to download music, we pay taxes for blank media that goes towards artists. Not all taxes are evil. :D

And cops do enforce the law most of the time, but it's just they have priorities straight. If there's a murder case and some guy hacking, they'll concentrate on the murder case.

For example, that robbery in my house - that case is still open. Though it's finished, it's still open in case the guy decides not to pay in full, like the deal was.

I could be wrong but I hear that in the states for small things like house roberies the cops don't even bother.

Oh and speaking of cops, we have TIM HORTONS! And Poutine! So there! :nana: :nana: :P

Tell you the truth, I'd rather have the CD-R tax here too than have the people deal with the RIAA. But that site is real, and it seems they're pushing to get more lawsuits on you guys :(

The only thing going up on Iraq should be a mushroom cloud. <3

OMG, poutine. =X

OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG.

I tried some while I was up there and that's gotta be the NASTIEST thing ever created by mankind. =XXXXX

CANADIANS SHOULD ALL GO TO HELL JUST FOR MAKING IT. :P

Tim Horton's was pretty good, though. Although, I could've sworn I tasted a hint of salt in the hot chocolate which I thought was kinda weird.
