heads up about upcoming madatory client update

Just a heads up, in the next few days I will be updating the shard to work with client 6.0.5.0 and it will be required for optimum game play (well, to connect, period

). So just a heads up. For those that tend to have trouble patching I recomend you make a backup, and start patching now, then just keep the new patched client stashed and revert to old one till I do the final statement that it is ok to update.

The new patch will introduce map changes, which I'm really looking forward to see. Involves gaunt, perhaps rooms got changed around, or maybe a room got added with a new boss, who knows, but we'll see. (if there is a new room I'll have to code the boss, but I'll try to get it in with same patch, if I find info on the boss)

There's a fix in SVN 266. Not sure how much different it is here, but I can show you a winmerge comparison if you want to see what they did.

wow they actually did a SVN update already? crazy, normally that takes them months.

Yeah it's funny. Whichever staff person did the update commit made a log post that said, "My one commit per year".

Ya Red is working on that right now but has not yet completed so you won't be able to connect with that patch just yet.

When I said you can update in advanced, I meant, make a backup, do the update, but keep using old version.

Still working on getting it to work, its harder then I figured. Apparantly its just a bigger packet, but there seems to be way more to it then that.

I'm busy with this packet change so I closed msn. Got ethereal, a couple custom apps, file compare util, etc etc... opened like a hacker lol.

The client is a bit over 1 gig, so it will take more then 2 minutes lol.

This update will be going through tomorrow after SW. I recommend everyone updates but keep a backup of current client, so after SW you just switch to new client.

I did see a few people actually login with 6.0.5.0 I have no clue why it works for some.
