That's a neat page. It's interesting studying the major extinction periods and their causes. They have also said that Austrailia'a variation is fauna, unlike any other location, is probably due to it's isolation. But if an asteroid hit and all of it's effects felt, that could cause variation via mutation, leading the theory that mutation due to outside interference has fueled our evolution.
