I have a curse on my house's piping

Post by Red Squirrel »

Ok, the tap in the upstairs bathroom has been leaking for who knows how long, so one day we decided to fix it. So I had to go shut off the water, and it's easier to get to the hot water valve then the main valve and we only had to shut off the hot water, so I went to the hot water tank and turned off the "in" pipe. we changed the tap all went well.

Later on that night, the hot water heater had a hole in it, and was leaking! And if we would not have noticed it would of just kept going for ever since as it was emptying, more water was going in. So we call my uncle who owns a reconstruction company to take alook at it etc..

We get a new hot water heater. So I go check it out that day and all. Later on I notice the tap is leaking! So we call someone again to come take a look at it and he fixed it with some special tape.

During this time we also had a small leak in the ceiling downstairs near enough the hot water heater but it was not big, but we ended up getting it fixed and it was the hose pipe for outside that just had a small hole in it and it was leaking one drip at a time on the dry wall and travelling a bit then it made a hole and leaked on the floor. There was maybe like 1 drop per hour.

So that's fixed.

Recalling all the problems with the toilets we also had in the past, and that leak we realize our water pressure was too high, and that tap in the bathroom broke again so we decided to get it done by a plumber to do it right. (I'm a handy guy and all but I don't really like doing stuff with pipes since I don't want to take the responsibility of screwing up. Electrical is less dangeraus so I stick with that).

So the plumber came to fix that tap and install a pressure equalizer. Since our pressure was at like 150PSI when it should be at 80PSI (I forget the exact numbers).

That was maybe like a week ago.

Today I was looking at that pipe (the main one) and I was telling myself how it's old and it would be scarry if it would burst or something, since you can't turn it off without getting the city to do it from outside the house. Every time someone uses water then shuts off the tap, the thing shakes.

Well today it leaked! The main valve, thankfully it stopped if we shut it off, so it was possible to fix. Just a washer in the drain hole that was cracked.

But all these pipe problems are really getting scarry. They always happen when I think something about the pipes, or touch them. Kinda scarry, and though'd I'd share. :D

Piping is something I don't mess with either at this point, not till I know a little more about it. I bet your toliet flushed nicely with that extra pressure! (Or did you have a bidet?) :D

Hahaha a bidget would be cool with that kind of pressure. :D

The pressure change is not really that noticable, but I guess it's mostly for when nothing is being used, so the water pressure inside the pipes is not pushing as hard as before. But when they built this house they also used cheap $9.99 piping instead of $16,99 so that makes a difference too. The guy cut it like it was straw.

I do electrical but piping is not something I'd do before taking some kind of course, since even if I think I know what I'm doing, if I screw up the results can be devistating, but with electricity, it's not as bad. Even if something shorts out and blows up, it would have to be left that way for a while before it does enough damage.
