Trying to get my camera installed. After plugging into the USB I keep getting an error..."USB device has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of it's hub port...disconnect device". Used the reset option but still get the same error. Must be something with my pc, I went through the FAQ and troubleshooting instructions on Kodak's site. :banghead:

Is it plugged thru a hub? There are some hubs that don't use power to run and leech off the usb of your tower (usually the small portable ones for laptops). Also, are you trying to plug your camera into a USB 1.1 port on an older machine? Sometimes newer devices do not recognize it, or they need USB 2.0. Was it working before and just decided to die on you?

Open the device manager (under system) -right click on your hub & check its power tab

It'll tell you whats available-usually 500ma & show you what its using.

Then go to the power management tab & uncheck alow computer to turn off this device.

reboot

Also if the camera is working you can go to the usb host controller also in device manager and under the unvanced tab check the don't tell me about usb errors.

Otherwise I'd leave the cam plugged in & uninstall the hub & reboot & see if Windows will reinstall it with the cam plugged in.

New camera, hub 500 mA per port...self powered...USB 2.0 enhanced host controller. I see no reason for the cam not to work.

Disabled the power thing...there are 4 root hubs. Maybe I should look on Intel's site for mobo updates?

System is a P4, 2.5G cpu and a gig of ram. XP Home SP2.

From the device manager--uninstall & reinstall all the usb stuff.

500 ma is the norm.

Re-install didn't work...I had it scan for hardware changes and it finally found the cam. Weird!

Now I can learn how to use it.

Thanks furball and richardj.

Thats interesting

So now its not giving you the error message any longer?

I wonder if you would have checked show hidden devices if that would have worked? :grade11math:

I'll take more pics and see what happens. Thing is, when I unplugged the cam from USB port, that stupid error came up again. Beats me...

If it's telling me I have a power surge, don't I need to know?

LOL

I don't know about that --never heard of it

However I found these-if they are any help

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;EN-US;310591

http://support.microsoft.com/?id=870893

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885624/en-us

ALSO http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=U...age&btnG=Search

I didn't read them all but it seems to be a quirck in WinXP SP2 and exspecially laptops.. One of them cured it by disabling LTP1 in the device manager.

Another said to upgrade your USB drivers. :dosgonebad:

sounds like a power issue, I'd get a powered usb hub and see if it helps, think those give more power then the one built into the pc.

He had said earlier that it is a self powered hub.

But what is an externally powered hub? I had found that in my Googleing. :grade11math:

I uninstalled the Kodak software, attached the cam directly to USB, instead of trying to connect through the charger dock, which let Windows detect new hardware and do an install that way. Didn't care for the software anyway...I can do more editing with Irfanview.

I've had trouble with SP2 before...should have left it off on the last format. Seems these updates from M$ are being forced on us more and more though.

I did try to update drivers...no go.

LTP1 in the device manager...I think the printer is using that one.

Yeah LTP is for paralell ports, mostly used by printers, definately not a camera dont think they ever made cameras that use that interface.
