OK, so I installed linux and very new. I can't open any .exe files. The only reason why I installed linux was because of my windows xp CD won't boot. It says 'Press any key to boot from the CD...'. I hit a key. It says configuring hardware settings and all the crap..and the screen just stays black. i tried that with home and pro, same problem. I tried installing windows after installing linux, but it won't open the .exe file. help please!

Linux can't really execute windows exe files. In most cases though, you can use wine.

What are you trying to do?

REinstall Windows or a new install?

You can't install linux after Windows--XP has to be installed first. :no no no:

If the Win XP cd is not loading --clean the cd with alcohol & a soft wipe & retry it.

Hmm it should work right away, if it does not, it might be because it cant support your network card. I've had that happen in the past. Sucks. Do an ifconfig to see what type of information that shows up.
