I bought a GeForce 2 MX400 64MB card off of Ebay sometime ago-the guy said it worked perfect.
It came with no software (BIG MISTAKE).
Although I've downloaded the supossed correct driver from the home site (it's hard to tell)
It doesn't work-nor has WinXP ever recognaized it. It is not listed in the device manager.
How can I tell if it's just shot or what?
TO me-if Win doesn't recognize it-- it's shot.

Well does the video work? I'm assuming it does since you looked at the device manager. Odd that it would not show up though... is it showing up under unknown devices maybe? though I don't think this would happen with a video card, it usually has a standard driver... but to tell you the truth I never noticed how it apears when the drivers arn't installed. Never buy something unless it comes with the CD though, it's a PIA to try and find the right driver.

For starters, the thing that worries me is when you say you got the 'supposed' correct driver. Nvidia has a unified driver that works for ALL video cards that use their chips. Did you get their driver?

No there is no video
I have onboard video thru my motherboard.
Ususally, when something is in place but not 'installed' it appears with a yellow question mark on it in the device manager.

I don't remember what I tried-I know one of the driver packs was for Win XP
But untill it shows in Device Manager I think its a lost cause.
Because even if I run the new hardware wizard it comes back that it found nothing to install

What's under display adapters? That's usually where it would be.

Just my onboard SIS 630/730
You really don't have to look as Windows will expand the tree if it has a yellow question mark. And yes I did click on show hidden devices.
The problem with my onboard vid is when I run google arial maps it'll run for about 5 min & then the onboard vid goes out & I have to reboot
And I even commit 64 MB to the video in BIOS
The vid looks like no drivers installed and I think it said 5 bit video or something freaky like that. lol

What happends if you plug into the other vid card? Do you get any video or is it just dead? If yes, the card is most likely gone then.
