UD troubles

For those who have not been keeping up, this is a brief list of all the trouble UD has been getting in the past months.

1) Excessive server downtime

2) Major dataloss - and they did not back up anything

3) more downtime

4) Stat database lost, and reconstructued but very badly

5) downtime

6) UD agents often dump WU's instead of sending them to server, and they require to be reset with the login information

There's probably stuff I missed. But let's just say the L3 admins there don't know crap about server administration, and don't have any form of redundancy or backups. Yes things can fail but if they had a proper backup solution, and redundancy solution, things should be back up and running within minutes.

Also their client is outdated, they refuse to support anything that is requested, such as linux, 64-bit, dual cpu, etc, which is crucial for a DC project like this since the whole idea is to use all available/unused resources to find a cure for diseases.

That said, wondering how many of you would be willing to switch to Find-a-drug, Folding@Home, or other DC project? Team UD would go on as there's lot of team members that are not contactable.

Yeah I've been looking into find-a-drug that's where lot of UD people are heading anyway. But I'll give it a few weeks for a final decision.

Just am update as the iceteks would probably not be aware!!

Dear Members,

This is a reminder that Grid.org will be physically moving to a new facility this weekend. This will provide better reliability and is part of the Grid.org migration. Grid.org must be completely powered down in order to move. This will include the forum, member web, and the grid itself.

Since this is not a trivial outage, we cannot give an exact time that Grid.org will be down. The outage will take as long as it takes and it may be a day or two before everything is back online.

I can't use F@H anymore. It seemed to be hogging too much bandwidth

For a minute when I saw an F and an @ sign so close I thought you said you would join F@H. I think you should, so your cpu time won't go to waste. :P

Sort of, but there's only 3 of us there so far, but most of the UD team seems to lack a communication channel with us so they don't know about the move. :D

Mr RS do you want to register iceteks here. It adds scores from several projects to make a combined score.

Looks like in the absence of fellow members at UD it will not belong before I reclaim the top stop and take over the world!!

you need to switch to F@H™. so far the servers have not gone down once. :D Their forum is bloody slow though, but perhaps they'll get a better web server one of these days. You also missed out on lot of action. Bitbendertech went there to stir some crap, and well, a bunch of them got banned, and their thread was deleted. PCqandA did the same I believe but I dont quite recall if they even had a thread or not.

Yep all console + service here, and using fahmon to monitor them all. I have them setup so they are shared via netbios so I can view all machines from the program, quite nice actually.
