PC in my PS2?

Alright, after one of my randon Google Image Search voyages I came across a wallpaper which consisted of nothing but the top of a PS. The original one. I found it odd that it perfectly fit the resolution, but, whatever.

I sat and stared at it for a few minutes. That's when it hit me. I want, for no reason except fun, a complete Sony computer((besides the guts, those can be anything)). Actually, to make it more specific, a Playstation PC. For obvious reasons, fitting my PC into a PS1 case would be alot harder. So I decided on the PS2 casing.

Wow, a quick Ebay search found me SIX PS2 cases for 5 dollars. Wow, cheap, and provided room for error. It might be a bit nice to salvage an old PS2, though. I mean, some of the innards I might want. Like the DVD-drive. THAT might come in handy AND save me some time and crap.

Ok, that bid ends in 2 days. Plenty of time. Should I go with that and give myself as much open-ness as possible AND trial and error products? Or should I salvage a cheap PS2 or two from some game store or pawn shop? Also, anyone here have any tips or would like to help with any errors I might run into?

I will, of course, have the assisstance of my trusted computer companion, Shawn P. And, of course, if I finish it the whole entire process will be made into an article exclusively for my favorite sites, as I did with the PSP article((technically only you guys published it, but I did post it other places)).

t3h comment, Yo!

That sounds cool. But I'm not sure if I'd still be able to run PS2 games. I could try to do that as well. It won't be a main priority though.

Er... There are WAY better cases than Alienware. That's not what this topic is about, though. This is a PS2 PC mod.

Hmm would be a cool concept, but would be hard to find the components that fit. And no way you can keep the PS components in it.

BUT you can take out the PS components and make a case mod for that as well. Never opened one so not sure whta kind of setup we're talking about here. Probably very far from PC looking.

Are all these components connected with a ribon cable? If yes it gives some options to move them around a bit for modding.

Doubt it. I'm probably going to have to completely strip it, and just use mini peices. Like what they did with the NES PC.

dude, i have had an awesome idea for s TRUE GAMING MACHINE!!!! get all the innards from a ps2, Xbox, and game cube, get an awesome lan case of some sorts then place all the innards inside the case and wire everything up, if you are really good you could wire it all up too 1 dvd drive, also think about the ndroppingin a normal mobo for actua; [c gaming, it would be a gamers heaven, also think about it if you where to connect the xbox and the ps2's innards to the same hd could u then run ps2 games thru the xbox hard ware circuits? lol, give it some thought :P

Possible. Maybe you should go a make a topic for it. It would be ALOT harder than my idea, but it would make for one hell of an article.

i dont think this matters in your case pyro since your gutting the thing but be very carefull when removing the top cover cuz there is a ribbon cable going the the power button thats a real beatch to get back in place when putting it back together lol

i should kept my old cases and parts lol woulda came in handy right about now

also you may want to use the ps2 dvd drive since the harddrive from your pc parts can fit in the stock HDD location right under the dvd drive and it will still look like a stock ps2 :biglaugh:
