I posted this over at AF but they seem to not get the point, i think you guys wil understand more. Around the world Christmas trees are being renamed "holiday" tree and its not just trees, its banners, decorations ect. This is not limited to the US it is also happening in toroto. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger is one politican to refuse to call it a holiday tree.
What do you guys think of this.

I find it's horroble that they are doing that. A holiday is general, christmas is a specific holiday, so it's called a Christmas tree since (most) people put it up at Christmas. I can't see why other religions would be offended, if that's the reason they ban it. By doing what they are doing, they are basically completely removing Christmas out of the picture.
"let's go kids let's unwrap the holiday gifts I put under the holiday tree, and be careful not to knock down the holiday decorations"

I agreed with you at the AF, I cannot think of any reason for anyone to be offended by a freakin' christmas tree. Ah well.

Bah, if they wanted to disregard christmas, they wouldn't even put up a tree and decorate it. Which is why I can't think of a good reason to change it's name: everyone, no matter what religion, associates it with christmas anyways.

Yeah exactly, if someone does not celebrate christmas, they simply don't put up the tree.
I'm sure there's holidays that we don't celebrate that some religions do, but I don't get offended by whatever they have that represents that holiday. (ex: the candle stick for the holiday that is sort of like christmas but for another religion)

If they call that a Holiday Tree, then I'm calling this a Holiday Menorah.
Hmm..I can't really think of any other holiday (no pun intended) around Christmas (no offense intended
) time. Those trees are only used in Christmas holidays, to my knowledge, so there is no reason why it should be....generalized. Remember people, Holiday Menorahs
.

We call it Christmas for a reason. I can understand why some people from other religions don't want it to be known as a Christrmas tree. Their kids see it everywhere, say "Oooh, nice Christmas tree". The parents don't want to make the kids feel left out, but they also don't want to adapt to another religion at the risk of ignorance to their own. But still, it's a TREE. It's ornamental, like mistletoe or tinsel. We don't WORSHIP the tree (Well, some of us may hug it just to get a good smell of the pine, but that's besides the point). We don't worship the tree, but it is symbolic to the Christian faith (I don't remember HOW, but it is). Others should just call it "Christmas tree". What's the big deal? I mean, You call Easter EASTER no matter what religion you are. EASTER BUNNY isn't called (The wickod hare from California who comes by your house to give you multicolored chocolate eggs). People tend to go too far with religion. It's nice to have a different religion, but don't stress upon the differences. If you don't celebrate a cartain holiday, don't ruin it for the rest of the people, and DON'T try to change it. My philosophy IS, if it's been around for more than 2000 years, it doesn't need to be changed just because a few people think otherwise.

Slavery has been around for over 2000 years, and I'm fairly certain getting rid of it was a good thing
