Service Pack 2 woes

Hey. I just installed service pack 2 for windows a couple of days ago. I was hesitant in installing it because I've heard that it was buggy. Well, it seems to be giving me problems. More than likely due to window'f firewall (Note: Microsoft should never make firewalls, 'cause YOU KNOW that's the first thing hackers are gonna try to break through DUH!). Anyways, I can't use Internet Explorer so much anymore because I get a popup saying something about microsoft explorer and how it does not like what I'm doing. The browser does not close or anything, it's just a pain. As well, whenever I try to open my windows explorer, I keep getting an illegal operation message (About 60% of the time), then if I try to open it again, it works. I managed to crash my system 2 times by double clicking the icon right after the message appears. It just seems to go through some kind of infinite loop. Not even task manager shows that the program is not responding. Anyways,. has anyone else had some kind of problems with service pack 2?

I hope the only reason you're using IE is for citrix.
Sorry can't help you with this one though since I don't run XP, so never had SP2 problems. Instead I'm using SP4 of windows 2000. (not sure if SP4 is something to be proud of though LOL)

Ya, I use IE only for Citrix. Other than that, I use good ol' firefox (God Bless). I can't stand using shoddy Microsoft products for too long. LOL. Ya, but service pack 2 seems to be buggy. And I didn't even need the added firewall and antivirus protection. I have a router, Norton Antivirus, ad aware AND a spybot. What more could I want?

Yeah and the SP2 firewall does not really work, it's been proven, I'd have to dig up the article on the net saying so as a few tests were run on it. It's basically more bloat added to the TCP driver to make things slower then they need to be lol.

More useless Microsoft accessories if you ask me. Just a way for Microsoft to look busy I suppose. Well, as long as service pack 2 doesn't screw up anymore than I've seen so far, I think I'll be alright. After all, it DID fix up a DLL file issue I was having before hand, so it isn't all THAT bad.

I am running SP2 & have been for a long time both RC1 & now RC2 and I've had no problems what so ever.
I STRONGLY disagree that the firewall is no good, as I have tested mine on a number of different sites like 'shields up'
& it always comes back STEALTHED.
As far as IE goes, do a search for the file ie.inf, right click on it & choose install.
This will 'reinstall' IE and fix alot of problems.

The firewall does not work for outgoing stuff though. it will prompt you to allow or deny a program but it does not matter what you press, it will allow it.
That's what I heard anyway, and it could be that it's fixed now... well I hope, since that's a pretty serious bug.

I installed SP2 on both of my computers and the transition went extremely well!! I am happy with the new features, especially with the pop-up blocker for Internet Explorer. This was another great update for an already AMAZING operating system, it puts the icing on the cake if u ask me. God bless Microsoft, Windows XP, and SP2.
:D
