using recovery disk for MSwinME

I'm trying to use the recovery disk for an older laptop (Compaq Presarrio 1200) and when I boot up it keeps starting with PartitionMagic (4.02). It says "beginning script execution" and then just sits there forever (24hrs so far). Anyone know how I get it to start doing a recovery or reinstal of the OS. :banghead:

thanks,
todd

Hmm... that's interesting... I had a Presario 5100CA wipe out it's 'systemsav' partition, as far as I know if that partition is missing or there is no data in it, (Usually a hidden partition) you won't be able to do the restore. Earlier Compaq restore CDs tended to rely on the harddrive... to date I've not been able to get the hard drive in the 5100 to do it's restore. You may be out of luck, I'm afraid, but maybe one of the guys (or gals) can help.

Hmm sounds like that's the issue... could be anything, a virus might of got in the drive, something got corrupted etc.... it was really dumb of compaq to do that, thankfully they changed that now (I think).

My best bet is to just do it the long (but efficient) way and to use the OS disk and go from there... thing with compaqs though is that they don't give you the discs so you'll have to sort of find them from other sources. I might be wrong but from a law's point of view in this case it would probably be legal as long as you use all the same versions.
