I have interior Roxio burner Creator 5. I have Compaq Presario Me.
I tried to copy folders to a CD-RW disk, and an error message stated
"...this disk is write protected. Remove the write protection or use another disk".
Well, it is a formatted CD-RW. What do I do to "remove" a "write-protected"
on a CD-RW?

That's one problem you might want to fix.

I never heard of write protecting a CD but maybe try nero to see if it works, which is better then easy cd creator anyway. If not you might have to reformat it, but that takes long on a CD-RW.

one the cdrom is formated which means it was made for use in drag and dropping files to it like you would a hard drive.

you will not beable to use that cdrw in any thing other then the computer that has the orginal burning program in it. it does not matter what computer it only needs the orginal burning program that formated it.

how ever you might beable to get it fixed. inside your roxio computer program

try to erase the cdrw completely that will unformat it.

if roxio cant erase it then you will need to get a free program called "cdburner xp pro" it is free look for it at snapfiles.com or download.com it will then beable to erase the cdrw. i dont understand why roxio does not doe it sometimes but it dont and i have to use that program to erase them.

yeah i just happened to stumble upon this. im having this same problem except with an mp3 player. i plug it in but every time i try to transfer a song onto it it says "is write protected" and it wont let me. can someone tell me how to fix this?

DRM is the trouble there.

you might be trying to load an mp3 you got from the internet.

either you bought it and have used up your number of legal copys.

or you never were allowed to copy it when you bought it. read your site agreement statement,

or you got it through one of the p2p programs and it is an illegal copy?

however you can get it working.

you will need to find a free wav editor program from the web check the same sites i said in the first answer of mine.

you will then have to play the mp3 with your player on your computer.
then you will while playing it have to record it with the wav editor. ( make sure you set your sound mixer board to record from the synth.)

then you save the wav file add in any needed amount of chorus or echo that might have been removed from the re formating of it. (some will be lost, its normal) then you save the wav again, and get your program to convert it to an mp3 file. there are several of them online for free most any jukebox, winamp with plugins. and media monkey, and cdex. i used all of them still have them all.
i like cdex for converting. media monkey does alright at that and playing. but media monkey is the best song data base and playlist organizer out there.

winamp did a good job too but it was a hassel to get all the settings correct for the plugins. i just use it for a player.

and that is what you need to get your mp3 file to a file that is not protected.
it is the wav editor that does it i think as once it is re edited it is no longer the same song it was but still some of the people are getting tricky with song protection. i just found a cdrom that was allowed to rip songs from but when i played the songs there was a clicking noise in the songs that was not on the cdrom.

I got it out but i used some old fashion will power and an old 16 bit wav editor.
sounds good to me now just like the cdrom

but of course you know that all of what i just said is highly illegal and can get you in trouble if you start giving the songs away. as of now you are allowed to do it for your own use.

but if you give them away your a.... is gra...... as my generation use to say.

actually i dont think its the mp3's that are write protected. i think its the actual mp3 player because when i try to do anything with it on there like change settings it comes up with the same thing....

that is not right protection that is messed up software you need to contact the maker of the mp3 player and tell them what is going on.

as the settings are or should be able to be changed for the songs playlist and or for the volume.

so your the proud owner of a rewed up mp3 player.

this happens when you might have been by high voltage power lines while getting the birds nest off the top of the pole, or walking through an airport or bank scanner, or by a power plant, or struck by lightining, and listening to music at the same time

or at the very very slightest amount of possiblitly,

walking by an unsuspecting person that was a hacker and was able to get some box built that would mess up mp3 players. this said hacker would be one that is being paid by the record companys.

but i dont think they would stoop that low. never can tell though?

no really still i think it is the ware that is the trouble maker
you should go get them and give them a word or two or even four.
