Lumberjacking Guide (v1.0)
Lumberjacking Guide (v1.0)
Introduction
Greetings, fellow woodcutters. First, I wish to mention this is a not a guide to explain how to make an AFK woodcutter. I have collected every log on this shard by clicking on my ax, then clicking on the tree. What this guide will explain, however, is enhancing wood-like products and ratios between woods.
Creating Your Lumberjack
-What Race Should I Choose?
My lumberjack, Wood Squirrel, is an elf. Elves receive an increase to their chance of acquiring special resources such as colored ore when mining or special boards when lumberjacking. The exact percent this is, honestly, is not known to me. However, it is a moderately significant amount. They also have permenant night-sight, but I doubt that matters because of Razor's light-filters.
Humans, on the other hand, have benefits as well. Humans have an increased carrying capacity above what is determined by their strength (which is to say they can carry more weight). Also, humans have a better chance at finding more resources while gathering hides, ore and lumber.
So, elves have a higher chance of getting special woods. But humans get more materials. So, you can't really pick one over the other. But for role-playing purposes, I find an elf to be more entertaining. Espically since elves suppose to be masters of bowcrafting, which adds another depth to their storyline.
-What Skills to Choose?
In Age of Valor, when creating a custom character, you can split up 100 skill points. Also, you have a 300 skill point deed in the bank. My suggestions for building your lumberjack would be to:
~Use the first 100 skill points evenly, 50 into tinkering, and 50 into magery. This is so you can craft hatchets (using tinkering, under 'Tools'), and you can recall.
~Use your skill deed on:
--Lumberjacking (If this needs to be explained, you should take a step back from your computer, hit yourself in the face with your keyboard like The Crazy German Kid, then continue reading)
--Bowcrafting (To make and enhance bows with the wood you get)
--Carpentery (To make an enhance wood weapons/shields)
However, it should be noted to enhance Woodland Armor and several wooden weapons (such as the Testubo), you require a capentery over 100. But, you can still enhance Bokutos and such.
Types of Wood
Glossary:
HPR=Health Point Regen
LR=Lower Requirements
Rand=Random Bonus
SC FC-1=Spell Channeling, Faster Casting -1
HCI=Hit Chance Increase
DI=Damage Increase
HLL=Hit Life Leech
CD=Cold Damage
[Note=Will make alphabetical later]
Uses of Woods
For enhancing armor, I perfer to use Bloodwood (3/8/1/3/3 HPR+2) or Frostwood (2/1/8/3/4). However, Ash (4/2/4/1/6) is actually the BEST wood to enhance wooden items with. I say this because Woodland Armor takes the same amount of strenght as platemail to wear. This is to say a minimum of 95 strenght if you want a full suit, so the 20% Lower Requirements helps. Also, Ash increases the item's resists by 17 points, where Blood and Frost increase it by 18 points of resistances. And finally, Ash takes 80 skill to lumberjack, thus having a greater chance of the enhancement prevailing.
For enhancing weapons, it matters on the weapon. For general weapons, enhancing them with Bloodwood is never a bad idea. However, if the item has FC+1, it's a great idea to enhance it with Frostwood. This is because Frostwood will decrease the weapon's FC to 0, and add the SC modifier. This instantly makes all those 10 DCI FC+1 staves you once thought useless to actually be a pretty good mage weapon. (This same idea applies to FC+1 15/15 Wooden Shields. Make them into 15/15 SC-0 Shields =))
[more to be compiled shortly, including rare resources (most likely will be posted tomorrow), stay tuned.]

Does the SC FC-1 apply to wespons though? The chart implies that it only applies to shields.For enhancing weapons, it matters on the weapon. FC -1 and SC is only shields. That chart is actually the same one I used when coding the woods. Only differences is that shields get the same resist bonus as armor here. I purposely did it that way, because shields with more resists are fun.

A problem I ran across regarding shields yesterday was whenever I failed an enhancement, the HCI on the shield lowered. I started with an 11 HCI and 11 DCI shield and after enhancing, ended up with 3 HCI and 11 DCI. Is it supposed to be like this? I was using heartwood if that matters.

Really? thats really messed. I'll have to look into that. If you fail the stats should not be touched. (or it should break)

Hmm. Yeah, I thought that the SC-1 applied to weapons. Coulda sworn I enhanced a Bokuto with SC-1. Must have been heartwood, though. xDDumples wrote:Does the SC FC-1 apply to wespons though? wait how can elves have a better chance to find special resources when trees and mines all have the same type of ore/log per tree? theres no difference between race

What?
Lumberjacking Guide (v1.0)
It's a quality they have, like humans have an innate 20 in all skills. And elves have an extra 20 mana. Elves just have a higher chance of getting Oak, Ash, Bloodwood, ect. However, Humans get more wood per attempt. Go to Felucca with a 100 Lumberjack Elf, then a 100 Lumberjack Human. You'll see a difference.Nosferatu wrote:wait how can elves have a better chance to find special resources when trees and mines all have the same type of ore/log per tree? theres no difference between race

You sure about this? I don't recall coding that and doubt thats already in.Lymus wrote:It's a quality they have, like humans have an innate 20 in all skills. And elves have an extra 20 mana. Theres a hard coded value of 10 logs per hack in trammel and 20 in fel. (or 20 in tram 40 in fel, can't remember the exact numbers)

With an elf, it's 20 in Fel and 10 in Tram. For a human, this number should increase by 5 (this includes leather/hides, ore, and other resources). Elves have a chance of getting one higher than the normal vein has, but it's only like a 10% chance.Red Squirrel wrote:You sure about this? Lumberjacking Guide (v1.0)
I can second this theory. When it comes to resource gathering, humans will find more resources than elves. The amount will be higher for a human depending ont the facet (If elf gets 10 wood in trammel, human gets like 15. In fel elf gets 20, human gets maybe 30). The numbers aren't exact but just saying. Also, elves will have a higher chance of getting rare/uncommon resources when they gather resources. It's one of those human/elf things.

It's possible it might have already been coded and adapted without you knowing (In the elf and human race area). Best way to test would be to get a human and an elf of equal skill and check to see if humans are getting more wood/ore.Red Squirrel wrote:Is this the case here? if not I'll have to code it.
