Just to let everyone know that I'm leaving monday for a web design competition and I'll return sometime on thusday. Not sure if it will be late or what not so I'll probably end up posting only on friday, not sure.
This will be tough though, we won't have internet access, and the site will have to be W3C compliant, which is something I never succeeding in doing in my life, but that's something very hard and difficult for even top web desingers and I highly doubt anyone will succeed, not to mention we won't even have access to the internet to validate it as we go. But I won 2nd place on the first level competition so I think I still have a good chance, the W3C thing is only one of the critira so it's not like it will automaticly disqualify me from winning or getting good. The key is to try my best and I'm sure I'll do good. They don't allow pirated software, but thankfully they will provide photoshop and text editors, which is all I really need to make a website.

Good luck on your competition, I'm sure you will do well.
Have fun...we'll be here when you return.
Will you have to go out of town or is this a local event?

No warez? That's descrimination against pirates! (arrr!)
Good luck red, I'm sure you'll do well with or without W3C compliance. Let's just hope the judges know what a good website looks like this time

Good luck!
It's good that the W3C stuff doesn't count
too much. You'll do great, I'm sure.
Keep away from the MARQUEE tags. I know how much you like them, but this is for your own good.

Marquee tags are only good when nested.
It will be an 8 hour drive to get there, it's in Kitchener.
Also they only mention that it has to be a minimum of HTML 4.0 standard, so maybe they simply mean it has to look good in all browsers and not actually be W3C, not sure. Standard put alone can refer to many things... I'm assuming HTML 4.0 is normal html... I don't really care about versions and specific standards when I program, I just make sure it works in standard browsers and try to cover non standard (IE). We also get way more time then the last one, we start at 9:00am and finish at 3:00pm so that's more then enough time to make a site, well depending how big and what they want I suppose, that I'll only know when I get there. It could be a 30 page site we're talking about.

well a final goodbye to everyone, I probably won't get the chance to post until I come back. I'll try to drop by though but can't guarantee anything.
Behave!
For the mods I checked the IP block instructions in the staff room to make sure they still apply to the current php system and they do, so if there's any troublesome users that happen to come the system works.
I doubt it will happen though. We've been lucky for quite a while now.

Hopefully the competition will be better than the 8-hour road trip!
Have a great and safe time.
[dohtml]<marquee width="200" style="color: red; padding: 5px;"><blink>Remember, blinking MARQUEE tags will win the judges over for sure.
</blink> </marquee>[/dohtml]
EDIT: IE workaround for blinking

Hey guys I`m back! I did not get 1st 2nd or 3rd though. (no medal) From what I heard they will be posting the results on the net so I can`t wait to see. I`m hoping they will also make all the sites public so I can see by how much I was beaten.
I think what stopped me from winning was that the site did not work well in IE. I used allot of css to make sure it`s W3C compliant and IE sucks for CSS. It does not support stuff like padding:10px and stuff like that. We thankfully had netscape though, which looks almost the same as mozilla and it`s based on the same engine (standard
).
The trip was fun too. We were going about 30 over the speed limit most of the time. At one time we were at like 170 or something lol. It was done in a safe matter though. (cop: Speeding is safe? :lol).
Big cities like Kitchener were we were are nice to visit, but not sure if I`d want to live there. We also hit rush hour at Toronto when we were going, advancing at about 0.5km/hr.
I should be posting some pics sooner or later since the teacher that was with us had a digital camera and will burn us a CD with the pics. There was one with a funny transport too, that one`s going in the funny section.
Oh, and I`m posting from school since our internet is down... my mom totally screwed up the network. She did not know how to plug in an Ethernet cable, not sure what she did but the modem is fried and even the router was acting up once I connected everything how it should go. The router side is now working, but the Internet is still not. I called my isp yesterday night after about an hour of troubleshooting (not much you can do without a phone line tester). I should be getting a call from my isp today, hopefully they can come over asap to check it out. I`m pretty sure it`s the modem.
