I recently bought Rapid Application Development with Mozilla, and I am really liking it. If you don't want to pay $31.49 for it like I did, you can download the copy entirely (and legally) free. I just thought I would post this since we have a few Mozilla fans here. This will be very useful if you want to make extensions or modify your Mozilla installation in more advanced ways.
Although I did learn about the free online version after I bought the book, I think I still would have bought it. Paper books can't be beat by e-books.
I'm still learning XUL tags right now. I'm in no position to do something big with it at this point. I hope to make an extension or two once I am good enough. I have one Thunderbird extension in mind, but other than that my mind is blank.
This book does teach with Mozilla 1.4, but almost all of it can be applied to Firefox and Thunderbird.
