I'll be gone tomorow and the day after for a web design competition, so everyone behave.
I'll probably have time to pop in once I get there though.

Didn't you do this last year as well? I think I remember you mentioning it!
Anyway, it sounds very exciting. I wish we had one here.
I lack the creativity to make something good though.
HAVE FUN AND GOOD LUCK, MON AMIE!

Yep we had this last year too. This year I'll be brining my PC with all my legit *cough* software already installed so it will go better. If I can get better then 10th place I'll be very happy. Last year I got 13th out of around 50 people I think it was...

It's in Sturgeon falls, it's called "Skillz Canada" (not spelled that way, I just felt like doing that
). We're allowed to use whatever we want, but to be honest I'm so used to coding by hand it will go faster for me that way. Otherwise I'd have a program such as dreamweaver on this computer.
I had this program called web express and it was fairly good, then I moved to front page, forget why, then I moved to hand coding and it's what I'm best at.
What's too bad is that we are not allowed to start a layout ahead of time. At least I don't think so... last year it was like that. The layout and images is what takes the longest, the rest is maybe half an hour of simply plugging in the content. It usually takes me a few hours to make a site layout depending on how complex I want it. Business layouts tend to be easier then say, this site, because they are more simplified. But colors have to be right so just playing with the css can take a while before it all falls together right, and you don't want to start working on layout images before the colors are good. Ether way I always keep the psd's just in case.
The hard part is that it has to fit and work off a 1.44mb floppy disk! So no php or nothing like that. I probably would not use php anyway though, it's a risk since if I run into errors it could delay alot of times debugging.
This time I'll have the site here so I'll be able to upload it somewhere and show it to everyone after.

We have something called SkillsUSA. I would join it, but we have to stay in certain classes which I don't really want to take... They have a Web design contest as well. It would be fun to do as long as I have an artistic person with me.

Do they have other contests too such as construction and welding? that's what skills canada is, I have some friends that are going in construction. (I'm one of the only ones in my school that knows what html is.... lol)

Yep, they have all sorts of things including that.
(Most of which I would fail miserably in.
)

haha well it's probably the same. In fact, I think the ones that win end up competing against each other. I think there's regional, national then international, so if I make it to international I would go in the US. I'm pretty sure that's how it works. Maybe you should join and we can both win and compete on the finals.

Thanks.
I'm still backing up my hard drive now. Got about 30gigs of data to send the server over a 100mbps connection. fun fun.
I should of skipped the backup folder, because now I'm just doing a backup of a backup. It's only logs and stuff anyway.

Yeah good night... if this backup ever ends.
I'll have to look into this when I come back, my network is SlOW! 100mbs should transfer 30 gigs much faster then this. As I watch progress, it seems to take more then a few seconds for files smaller then a meg while it should be going at over 10MB/sec...

I decided to do some selective backups, only backing up the most important of all. I just remembered I did an entire drive backup not so long ago and half of that stuff probably did not change anyway.

That's nothing... someone used it durring the competition.

I'm H. I think I have a good change of winning, I'll know tomorow.
What sucks though is that I tested it in IE and for some reason IE decided to ingore the width= parameter on the navigation. IE usually does not ingore that, but for this site it does. Not sure why. They will use IE to test it.

Judging by the ones I looked at, your site should win.
Sheesh, those were some real stinkers! Looks like they designed their sites with the Geocities Pagebuilder

Do you have any conditions I should know about?
Ask me another question. Interesting comparison.
