I am proud to introduce to you the IceTeks Halo server. If you don't own Halo, go buy it! it's awesome! Read my review if you have not and look at the screen shots. The actual game is nicer then those screen shots because those are compressed.

The IceTeks Halo server is in the game spy directory and is called "Allyourbasearebelong2us@iceteks.com" and it's exactly that: All vehicles Some maps are limited as to how many vehicles, but usualy it's 8 warthogs (4 machine gun and 4 rocket launcher) 4 banshees and 4 ghosts, per team but it varies depending on the map.

Also, I called my ISP and they said it is OK for me to run this server. What I'm not allowed to run is specificly a web server, but a gaming server they said there's no problem. Just making it clear for any "passer by's" that love reporting servers. :no no no: :dosgonebad:

The respawn time is 10+0 and the vehicle respawn time is 0, this makes it more realistic, as if you put a vehicle somewhere, it will stay there for the whole game unless someone else uses it. You can also block teleports with vehicles if you want, to trap someone in their base and bomb it.

Anyway, so that's the server, hope to see ya online! I'm there as Red Squirrel, if you use a different username then your current you can post here. Enjoy the game!

If there's any problems please report them here as well. :awesome:

Most of the time it's 10/10 people on it! So for those trying to join keep clicking once on it so it refreshes so you can join when someone leaves.

I think there's still a problem where it somtimes advertises the wrong IP, as I could not get in earlier, but that will hopefully get worked on in a future version.

Now the server is offline. Not sure why but it decided to stop working. We may be better off waiting till it's no longer in beta and hopefully they will fix all these problems.

Actually now the whole thing just stopped working for me, it does not list in gamespy anymore. It's weird since I did not change anything.

But to get the external IP you can either go in your router's config where external DHCP is and it will show what your isp has assigned, or you can go to a page that shows your ip. I usually go here: http://www.iceteks.com/misc/admin/ Just a page I made a while back to make administration easier - everything there is password protected. ;)

But the server advertises the local IP all the time, but sometimes it will still let me and other people connect to it. It's weird how it's not consistant.

right now there's only one PC on my "network" so I tried it without a router but it did not work any better either. I hope all these problems will be fixed in the real release version.

Red Squirrel,

I was also running a Halo Server, and all was well... Then the next day it just stopped working. And now it works when it feels like working. I've tried the original init.txt and i've tried omitting each config line to see if there was maybe a conflict. To no avail..

I also find that the map ui.map in the server map pak is very small and invalid when you try to use it...

Havoc,

A cool feature I use to find my IP is Teamspeak Server. And if someone else is running the server, and your a client, the server admin can tell you your IP...

And if your running a server and your IP changes all the time, try http://www.dyndns.org

Yep it's exactly what happened to me, it was working ok at first, then decided not to. Once the parts for my parant's computer come in I'll build it and I think I'll hook it up directly to the internet to see if it solves the problems.

Red, a few things to try.

Your Router might have a NAT Firewall, you might have to open the port through that.
Check your router, and software firewall if you haven't already, and check around to see if there are any game patches out there.

And, of course, check your config files.

Nope, it's not a router issue since I get those problems with a dirrect connection. I also got it to work once with the router. Not sure how it's designed but I don't even need to port foward or nothing, still works. I can't direct IP connect either.

And it's not blocked by NTL since they don't mind game servers - it's web servers they don't want, which are still not blocked anyway.

It's still a beta so I'm waiting till they release a better version.

I have also tried without the router, and nothing. I ran Sygate PFP firewall on Server1/Singularity.Nebula.Universe and Zonealarm Firewall Pro on Server2/Pulsar.Nebula.Universe and could not get Halo to consistantly work on either. I run servers for Teamspeak, Battlefield 1942 (MODS: DC.DCX.XWWII.EOD.IS82), UT 2003, Medal of Dishonour, Call of Duty, Jedi Knights, Freelancer, Ghost Recon, and many many more Dedicated Servers, and most worked fine, some had problems, but were usually CONFIG based or FIREWALL based.

I pissed around with the config, and firewalls are not a problem for me. I have a feeling its just shoddy programming that we are dealing with here. You can always run a main game server. That at least works 100% of the time.

I have 2 servers

Processor [P4 3.2 HT 800mhz FSB]
Memory [1024GB]
Video [ATi 9800 Pro]
Storage [240GB RAiD /w Separate 80GB Hard Drives for System and Temp Partitions]

Processor [P4 3.0 HT 800mhz FSB]
Memory [1024GB]
Video [ATi 9800 Pro]
Storage [240GB RAiD /w Separate 80GB Hard Drives for System and Temp Partitions]

So the hardware is not the problem.

Oh well.. Piss on it.. It's MILLER TIME !

I can't wait till they fix these problems. I just got into map editing it's fun. There's one where I switched the flags in bloodgulch, very funny since if the ennemy has your flag and you have their flag, there's no place to know where to put it. :lol2: also, the vehicles respawn in the air so they can fall on people. I need to make it so all of them respan in the air. I can call it "vehicle storm" LOL

SERVER IS BACK ONLINE!

Now that I got my parant's computer rebuilt, I managed to get it to work off that computer no problem. It sure enough apears that you can't connect from the same machine it's running on, but from another. I was testing it out and someone connected and had a good ping.

The game name is allyourbase@iceteks.com (that is not an email addy :P )

There's a mix of CTF and slayer and it's all running on custom game types that have mostly all vehicles and customization such as no time limits, some have bigger weapons (rocket launchers, fuel rod guns etc) while some others have normal weapons, and it uses a few of the most popular maps such as blood gulch, death island and gerophobia or whatever it's called. :P

So come and join us, people are dying to get in. :P

It's sort of down right now, temporarly technical difficulties. I'm going too fast, I already started playing around with maps, putting cars in trees etc... now it won't list on game spy no more. I'm waiting to see if it's just that it takes long. Getting late but if I see that non one is on by tomorow I'll put the maps how they were. :D

It seems this is a wide range problem effecting other servers as well. It apears gamespy is blocking servers that are cracked. I have no clue what they mean by that since it's free software, but I'm working on it. ;)

Ok, server back online and there's lot of people on, but everybody is getting pings in the like 2000's and stuff. So I don't think this is going to work out for too long. I figured a 1mbps line would do but it does not seem like it. I'm also having problems connecting to any server so it's obviously screwing something up on my network. But for those halo fans, give it a try and report here if it's slow or not. I can't connect to any halo server right now and I don't know why.

I fixed my own connection problems unrelated to the server, so the server should have been working 100% fine durring that time. But now no one is joining, it's taking a while. Once traffic picks up it's good, but it always takes time, besides, who wants to join an empty server? But once there's 2 people joined the game starts rolling and others join.

Hardly no one uses this server, and sometimes the console is not minimized and my parants think the computer is not working when they see it so figured I'd take it off. I also have to be connected through my hub for it to work, as a direct connection to the router is not working, have no clue why. So it'soffline for now, but I might put it back here and there or if I decide to have a mini lan party or something.

I never updated this but I fixed my hub problem by replacing it with a 100mbps switch so I don't have to switch cables around all the time for big network transfers.

Also, Halo CE has been released allong with some editing tools for making maps.

So I will play around with this and soon update the server to the CE version, Halo CE will be required to get in, but it can be downloaded from gearbox.

Wow, the halo editing kit is extremly complicated to use. It's very tedious work. I still did not figure out the whole command line part of it, it's annoying that it's like that though, since you have to start cmd.exe, then browse to the halo folder etc... and it has spaces, and spaces are a pia in dos...

Man, they did a good job, but at the same time a bad one, it could have been more user friendly.

The halo CE server will be run once I figure it out, but custom maps are not guaranteed.

Ok so my map is progressing. I was just taking a break but now I finished and made it the way I want in autoCAD, now to see if it will let me compile it....

anyway here's a wireframe shot, the yellow is on land, and the white is tunnels. The octogon is at a lower level then the rest. There's basically 3 storeys to this map. (4 of you count the sniper base)

PHotoshop is beeing an butt with me and won't let me paste anything in it so here's a cheap ms paint version.

Looks like it loaded in sapian, now I'm just figuring out radiosity (lighting) and texturing. Texturing is a PIA in 3d studio so I will probably just have one single texture on the map. Boring I know, but oh well. The scenery will add more. Hopefully there's a piece of scenery for teleporters since I did not design anything for those. :D
