server move - DONE!

Our host has ordered 3 dedicated servers to replace their most unstable servers and our server is one of them which will be moved over to a better provider. THis should be done durring the next few days. The move has been described to be seamless, so it should not have any impact on us. Only thing I can see happen is that we may loose a few posts depending on when they are posted, but other then that there should not be downtime or anything. I sure hope this will help stablelize this site.

It is possible that in the next 72 hours or so that any new data is lost once the move is complete. So if you register in this time, I will try to re-enter the information in the database as I will try and do more backups durring the wait period.

The move should be taking place shortly. The new server has been setup by the host, so they will start moving accounts over soon I assume. So if anything is posted durring this time it could be that it is lost. But we should not loose anything else.

hahaha, I quote from our host:
The server 5 migration is delayed until Monday. Our sys admin needs to take Sunday off after working very hard for us the last few days. The migration should be complete by Tuesday 12/9.
Man what a hard job eh? But then again, you should not have to take a sunday off, it should already be off! They should be at least two sys admins so they can have turns to work on weekends and stuff, since I assume it's the type of job you have to be there 24/7 in case something happends.

They may have one Sys Admin taking care of certain aspects and then other employees he works in conjunction with. For example, with my placement at the college, they have one technician that is the network administrator, he takes care of the servers as much as possible. They then have another tech that takes care of the financial / transcript server and the web server, another who monitors and deals with network security along side the network administrator and finally one more who deals with day to day systems (staff desktops and ect).

Yeah could be that too.
Just an update for the move, we are still on the same server as of now. (Wowrack) Wow it's been doing good lately though!

The migration should start shortly, or should already have started, so this data lost sequence is now, any new data may be lost. I hope I was not too late to put up my Halo review.
Only thought of it after, and this is already submitted to slashdot and warp2search... let's' hope it will not be lost since it can mean between posting or not posting if the link is bad when they check it.

The move is over. Strange since earlyer today it was resolving to the new IP but I noticed a bunch of new posts/gone posts and new members, so I guess it was resolving but http was still going to the old server, maybe browser cache.
