you definately should have mentioned spyware, malicious cookies, active-x and spybot results when using IE and using Opera ( spybot checkin 10,000 things, came up with NOTHING when I use nothing but opera.)

Yeah I did not go into that much details, but I forgot about the spyware, and the fact that sites can hijack the browser and put tool bars and crap like that. I'll add that in tonight.

Built in ad-blockers, tabbed browsing, plug-ins, mouse gestures...oh and it's built on IE so compatability is a non issue.

It's still using IE though...

I would recommend Firebird now instead of the Mozilla Suite.

Firebird (Even with Mozilla.org's new design, I still prefer that page.)

The reason some sites only work in IE is because they are badly coded, a properly coded website should work in as many browsers as possible. It's hard to make it look 100% the same in every browser, though I'm sure it's possible, but at least they should work properly. And sometimes malicious sites are not the user's fault, sometimes you can be on a news site or something and get a popup and then another, and another, then you accidentally click on one and it leads you to some porn site with 10 more popups, then maybe 5 to 10 "vote for us" thingies, then after having to reboot, you find yourself with 2 toolbars installed, your home page is changed, and you have a bunch of junk on your desktop.

Other browsers don't let that happen.

I hate to say it by I do kinda agree with diesel to some degree. The article is a bit one sided, and tends to do a lot of IE bashin. No wI'm obviously not saying I hate mozilla and do not recommend anyone switch, I love mozilla and wouldn't switch back to IE for anything. But the truth is, we still live in a very Microsoft world, where a lot of websites are built for IE and IE only. You can say that's bad coding, but that's really just a cop out to the fact that most people use it, otherwise coders wouldn't be able to get away with stuff like that. And while mozilla and opera are working towards compatibility, and more and more websites are being designed standards and other broswers in mind, we aren't quite out of the woods yet.

You make a lot of good points red, but it really doesn't make for good writing to completely ignore the other side of the argument.

You can't forget the point of the article is to use an alternative, so I just tell the reasons why it's important, and IE bashing is the only way to go since if there's positive things to say about IE, then it defeats the purpose of switching.

yeah, but again, the article makes you sound like a common M$ basher, and while and while it's really easy to bash IE and ms, it's by no means uncommon. IE has long been critized by a lot of people, and a lot of readers will have written you off as just another basher long before they read about the advantages of the alternatives. I just think that you could've spent less time bashing IE and more time showcasing the advantages of mozilla and Opera.

Yep I find mozilla so much faster. With IE I was always capped at around 5KB/sec, I'd hit 10KB if lucky. With mozilla I usually get in the hundreds, using most of the potential of my adsl line.

sh*t. i have to use IE at work. that lasted all of 1 day before i broke company policy and installed opera. i don't see what diesel is talking about. if someone is asking what browser to choose or any other software to choose, you're going to get mostly opinions. but if you want facts, then along with IE being able to render most of the shoddily coded websites, it has the most holes and exploits, is the worst at conforming to standards, and has the least amount of features of any other browser on the market. hell, the frickin' website designers at microsoft.com can't even code to where their own browser, IE, can render their website without getting fricking random scripting errors. anyway, use what you feel like using. try everything that's out there and make your own opinions on them. the above is basically just my opinion from using IE from version 3.X to the present versions. it is the worst browser on the market. that is my opinion and i won't muddle that up with facts.

Have you tried Opera, Victor? I'd suggest you try it out. I greatly prefer Firebird, but it's better than IE!

Oh, and Firebird 0.8 should be out February 9. This should be a noticeable improvement over 0.7, and I can't wait!

formatted the 4 gig HDD and installed fresh hacked copy of Win XP pro she runs good as long as I just run simple apps she slow on photoshop I feel like this->

ouch, I remember how slow my parant's p3 was. man, I was so glad when I built my computer. Opening photoshop on the old pc would take a good 5 minutes, then it would take about a minute to load the layer properties dialog. any type of render, I might as well go do something else lol.

An autocad render of a table, chair and fireplace took about a day to do. On my new pc it took about 15 minutes. LOL
