hey guys

i got a question. ive got some dang page that pops up as my home page but in the address bar it says http://www.yahoo.com :grade11math: if i goto internet options, i can re-enter home address with no luck in fixing it. when i click the default button there it shows the imposters address. any idea how to get rid of the culprit? i went to a gaming site and had like 6 million porn pop-ups attack at once and this page has been here ever since. any ideas?

mm

Sounds like a spyware virus, do you use IE? You probably got nailed with a nasty active X or something like that. Maybe try to do a spyware scan and virus scan and hopefully something will come up that you can just delete.

This topic has been moved to software. I feel nervous doing this sort of thing, but I didn't see any reason why it should be in hardware. :)

Yeah... Hardware and software look similiar. I'm always afraid that I'll move it and then realise that it really should have stayed. I read it a few times to make sure.

Yeah, I'd scan with something like Adaware and Spybot. :)

touble is your homepage has been highjacked.

go to yahoo page and again find the link there to make that page your homepage

it should reclaim the hotkey that the highjacker had stolen from yahoo.

i can not remember the date and time. but if you go to

http://www.techtv.com/callforhelp

and click on their message board you can go in there and do a search for
highjacked home page.

there was a lot of posts for that in there at one time. but not sure if it was past the time limit for them to be removed from their server or not. still check it out. they said the hotkey you needed to fix.

if the messages are gone then search all of techtvs site for highjacked homepage. as leo did a artical on it once so it should be there somewhere.

B) EDITED IN
Oops seams i spelled it wrong you need to look for " homepage Hijacked."
EDITED OUT

EDITED IN NUMBER 2

here is the link i found from their message boards

http://cgi.techtv.com/search/messageboards...ricted_search=1

check it out there are a lot of messages there like i said in first part of this post.

EDITED OUT NUMBER 2

Why not just use something else than MSIE and if your gonna stick with IE, go to tools>internet options, and set your homepage their.

That works too, MSIE is the only browser out there that can be hijacked so easly.

That's not true.

A hikacker could still change your homepage, anbd if you do that, you won't be able to change it back.

it blocks them from taking my homepage and it will let me change to what ever home page i want. when ever i want. :)

so what is the basis you are using to call me a lier.??

I made a slight mistake, sorry.

I meant to say it can be a bad thing if you have that enabled after your homepage gets hijacked.

There's also the possbility of what I said before happening also.

oh ok i admit that if you lock your home page after it was hijaked then you might be in a bit of trouble getting it un hijaked. :D

and anything is possible. but it has not happend to me so far. the only thing that seems to happen is that the hijak atempt makes my browser stop working. as in it wont go to any site. at all.

kind of what happed over the week end here with iceteks.

just be a little more detailed in your posts like that from now on ok :biglaugh: it makes me confused as i cant read your mind  not yet anyway. :awesome:

I'm a member at two spyware forums, so when it comes to this stuff, I usually know what I'm doing, and I will try to be more detailed.
