Anyone ever open their monitor before?

Well I'm the type of person to do such a thing. I'm having this problem that just started where it's making this weird "AC 60hz" sound so I vacuumed it out to see if it solves the problem. It seems to have solved it.

But something I must say before you even stop reading and try it out of excitement:

Warning! The inside of a monitor contains high voltage that can kill you over 3 times (it only takes 1). Red Squirrel, IceTeks, north pole, or any nut factory such as Planters may not be held responsible for injury such as electrocution, death, burns, house fire, large electromanetic interfeerence attracting aliens and the fcc, or even a circuit breaker tripping. Do not touch any of the components under any circumstances unless properly discharged.




Ok, now that the legal stuff is done. (lol) on with the pictures!


First, the whole thing.

With this on my desk, it looked like I was building some killer robot or something, just look at it, it looks scarry looking.

Here's a closer look at the tube, well part of it, where the driver and stuff hooks up to it.

Random fact: The tube of a monitor works the same way as an atom smasher, but on a much smaller scale.

This is the part that seems to be emiting that noise, sure enough, it looks like a transformer, hence the 60Hz sound. (I need to overclock my house to something higher maybe )

Here's a clearer pic of some more electronics, in the back you can see that troublesome part. My camera has a 1:3 ratio on nice pictures, usually, and this is one of the nice ones that came out.

And here's a look at the "motherboard". Actually, because there's such high voltages in there, I bet there's less circuity then an actual computer montherboard even though it's twice the size. There's less layers to it, and the solders are much larger.

I gotta say one thing red. you sure do take after your name sake. they are always getting shocked on them high voltage wires.

Haha I just noticed the top ads are all talking about transformers. Oops, said the word again.

We had a squirrel to short out the transformer on our property, that sound was like a bomb exploding! It now has a squirrel guard in it. Too late for the little squirrel, it never knew what hit it!

yes i have several times never been shocked yet .

( Boys and girls don't try this at home )

I got shocked by capacitors before, but it was not a monitor, it was a power supply. The shocking only worked when it was plugged in. Why did I actually try, I dunno.

I'm going to kill myself one of these days.

i have yet to get shocked by anything i'm working on ( must be dumb luck )
