Isabel pounds U.S. East Coast, dumping rain and leaving millions in dark

BALTIMORE (CP) - Isabel raced from Virginia to the Canadian border Friday, delivering far less rain than expected but leaving millions without power, smashing homes and causing tidal surges that trapped even some city dwellers in their homes.

At least 17 deaths and potentially billions of dollars in damage were blamed on Isabel, which proved troublesome despite taking just a day to fizzle from a 160-kilometre per hour hurricane into a 50-km/h tropical depression.

Scarry stuff, it's incredible how fast this can hit, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Aye, we got hit yesterday. Luckily all we got was a lot of rain and some wind. No power outages, uprooted trees or any of that, and it was pretty much clear all day today. Internet was out for a little while today, but it's back up. Lucky for them, much longer and they'd taste me blade!!

It was kinda funny though, all the schools cancelling for yesterday, the temp job I'm working now got cancelled for the day too - and it was all bright and sunny all day. Few clouds, but no rain in sight. Got a nice 3 day weekend free of charge :)
