The best thing to do is to learn html, but in the meantime, you can always use Ms word or MS front page if you have Office installed, those make HORRIBLE code, but it will get the job done, for something better you can look into Claris home page or some other programs, I don't really know any others since I just use note pad and other plain text editors.

I agree with Red. Learning HTML would be best because you have more control over your page. It's not that hard, I promise you. :)

But you're looking for a good WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) HTML editior, right? If so, Mozilla comes with a great one called Composer. Mozilla is not just an HTML editor though. It's an open-source suite containing a browser, e-mail software, HTML editor, and lots of other things I don't see the point in listing. I don't see the point in downloading the whole thing just for the editor though.

Netscape has this too since it is based off Mozilla.

If you want to do your page in XHTML, Mozilla Composer is not a good choice because it will change
to
and lots of other little things. Mozilla Composer does a great job of making standard HTML 4.01 Transitional though.

So unless you want to give Mozilla a go, I don't know of anything because I haven't used many of them.

I have heard that Office XP doesn't make good HTML documents. They look great in IE (Of course  ), but then in other browsers they don't look like intended. Again, I have only heard this. I haven't been able to test it out myself since I don't have Office XP. This is not the other browsers' fault though.

It's just an HTML document. :) You are supposed to edit that HTML file as you see fit -- changing the names of hyperlinks, making them point to something, making a title, etc.

I saw some non-standard code in the template I downloaded.

Oh yeah... That reminds me of something, but I'll keep that to myself for now. :P

If you are talking about the templates, they are probably zipped (At least the one I downloaded was). You will have to extract them. :)

Hey, try HTMl for dummies. I learned in 2 days and I let taka here use it. If you want the link, I host it, you can browse to it whenever you want, and I promise you it's easy as sin.

To make text bold you do this

Code: Select all

to make text <b>bold</b> you do this
All HTml is tags, setting them on and off.

Also, check out Dream Weaver or Adobe Go live.

B)

what you want to do is get a free program?

ok

look for 1st page 2000 it is a free one and works like a text editor but has lots of scripts you can add in B) only some of them dont work which is a minus. :(

or you can get a copy of the " frontpage express " it should be on your windows 98 cdrom.

but like already said front page can add in codes that are only known to front page and that makes it a bad thing to learn on. :banghead:

I suggess you get the 1st page 2000 and learn with that one it also has a html code checking program where it tells you there is an error in the html code and where the error is located at on the page. :awesome:

now to learn html you need a good teacher.

so i suggest looking at "Joe's " site :awesome:

http://www.pagetutor.com/index.html

he will have you making html code in a short time. and in a month you will be making pages with the rest of us.

stay away from frontpage or ms word. sh*tty programs for html authoring. one of the easiest and best free html authoring tools which is wysiwyg (What You See Is What You Get) is mozilla composer. download mozilla @ http://www.mozilla.org

pretty frickin' easy to use.
